I’m not typically one to negatively review a business, but after three negative experiences with Mondelli’s I feel compelled to do so. Their cakes are delicious and honestly my favorite in town. The service, however, has consistently been disappointing.
Last year for my oldest son’s birthday they shorted us about half the cupcakes we ordered. Thankfully it was a Saturday and was early enough that we were able to go back and have them provide us with the missing cupcakes.
Fast forward to this year and we had the exact same experience for my middle son’s birthday, but it was too late in the day once we realized what happened and we had to supplement with store-bought for his party. When I reached out to the owner I felt I had to jump through hoops to try to provide information regarding our order because they do not have a modern ordering system. Finally we were able to determine the amount I should be credited back and I told her we would use it towards a future birthday.
This week my husband called to place an order for a chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream to pick up today for my birthday, which is tomorrow. When he arrived and checked the cake he discovered they had made it incorrectly. He specifically requested chocolate buttercream and the cake was made with original buttercream. They even had the receipt with the correct information on it—they just made it wrong. Whoever was at the store used our credit towards this incorrectly made cake and didn’t charge my husband the remaining $10 (roughly) as if that was doing us a favor. They are not open tomorrow so basically we were told there was nothing else to be done.
I am very disappointed and will no longer be giving them our...
Read moreHave always loved this bakery but will never take my business there again. In June, I purchased three $7 Groupons for $45 worth of goods. Unfortunately, my Groupon expired so my $45 was now only worth $21, what I paid for it - my own fault. I lost my Groupon value but wanted to use my $21 credit to purchase two dozen donuts for my daughter's birthday. The bakery refused to allow me to use two of the three credits, arguing I could only use one per visit. This is only the policy for Groupon use, not store credit. I asked if I could purchase one dozen and return later to purchase the second dozen (that would be two visits); I was told "no". I asked if I could purchase one dozen and my daughter purchase the second dozen; I was told "no".
I ended up purchasing one dozen from Mondelli's and my second dozen from Krispie Kreme, who actually provided much better customer service. I understand the rules of a Groupon - one per visit. However, I was not using a Groupon (as it had expired); I was using store credit. I paid Mondelli's $21 in June which correlates to a store credit. It is wrong to tell me how and when I can use the credit. It was paid for 3 months prior. I have never had a store dictate how I use a store credit. I was not pleased at all with this experience. I will use the rest of my credit and will never return. I have loved this family-owned business for years (I have purchased their hot cross buns every Easter for as long as I can remember) but this horrible customer service was irresponsible and, frankly, illogical. Truly...
Read moreThe Sweetest people, I love ther cakes, they can put any design or character on your cake . Prices are reasonable and the cakes have THE Best flavor. I dont go to any other bakery. I have driven well over an hour back to Lexington just for one of their cakes. Their petite fours and Bon bons are extremely moist. I have been going to Mondelli's for my birthday cakes since I was able to drive and that was over 35 years ago. I remember when they were on Alexandria Drive, i used to stop in and pick up a small cake for Sunday dinner. My daddy went to school and played football with Mr Mondelli and he always bragged about how good their cakes were.. So, I've been going there ever since. They are the best. I HIGHLY...
