Limon, Colorado, may not offer the same range or variety of restaurant choices as a big city, it does offer a few. We are here for a couple of days and chose our first dinner to be at Oscar's Bar & Grille, it's all movie themed. Old reel cameras, posters and photos adorn the interior. It was a fun vibe. The menu has a lot to choose from. Pizza, steaks, shrimp, sandwiches and appetizers or "previews". Most of the item names or categories were related somehow to movies too. It was kind of fun reading them. Usually, my beautiful Bride and I split a meal, but today we couldn't quite agree on what to split so we ordered separate meals. We did split a preview of the spinach artichoke dip. It has "house made chips" and was labeled as "creamy and cheesy". It was as advertised. There was even a bit of baked cheese in the side of the bowl. Yes, we used a spoon to make sure there was nothing left behind! My Bride ordered a Texas BBQ Burger topped with onion rings; it comes with a side of fries too. She told me she liked the fries first, so I had wondered about the burger. She said it was good, but overcooked for the medium she ordered. It looked closer to well, but definitely not a hockey puck. The onion rings were yummy too. She has one and gave the others to me. They were lightly breaded and not too soaked in oil. A little salt and they were yummy. The fries and rings made up for the well-done sandwich! I ordered a "Hello Lucy" aka a Cubano. It was good. The ham overpowered the pulled pork as far as flavor, making more of a grilled ham and Swiss cheese sandwich in flavor. It was still good and I would order it again, but would try other things first. I got a side of Cole slaw and it was yummy. It was a mayo style and slightly crisp cabbage. It was worth the risk on restaurant slaw and I would definitely order again. Yes, because we didn't split meals, there is leftovers for lunch. Our waitress was friendly, gave us time to look over the menu, and took our order with no rush. The only thing I wish she had done was ask if we saw the specials board when we walked in. We noticed it on the way out, and one of the shrimp specials would have been a strong contender (a "Rocky" shout out). Oh well, I guess weâll have to go back. All in all, this was nice experience in a hub city. People were friendly and the food was good. It was fun looking at all the...
Read moreTruckers....listen up! If your coming through Limon, Colorado, make it a point to treat yourself and visit Oscar's Bar & Grille. Don't let the name dissuade you. Yes, they have a bar which is separate from the dining room. Not wanting to eat truck stop food, I headed here from TA, which is just a short walk. When I walked in. I was immediately greeted by a smiling Cheyenne. My server was McKenzie, who also welcomed me warmly. I asked about the meatloaf and pot roast, which Cheyenne said was excellent. I had the meatloaf, loaded baked potato and broccoli. Meatloaf was thick-cut, hot and VERY flavorful. I forgot to ask for the sauce on the side, but that was pretty tasty as well. Broccoli was cooked tender and the loaded baked potato was hot, with bacon bits (real), butter and sour cream. I ordered the cheesecake with chocolate drizzle to eat back at my truck. That was creamy, and real close to authentic New York style Cheesecake. The staff is constantly making sure the tables, chairs and dining room in general, is clean! Where I sat was a big screen TV with a basket ball game on. What's fascinating about this place is all the cinematic memorabilia all over the walls and in showcases. I spent about 30 minutes after dinner just looking at all this great stuff! They actually have TWO antique commercial movie projectors, that used to run 35 mm movie prints in the movie theaters. Those were the days when there was a "projectionist" in the room, to change out the reels of film during "intermissions". I rarely give 5 Stars, but it is obvious that the owners care about serving descent food and understand the meaning of "service". I spent about $28.00 including tip and it was worth...
Read moreI have to give Oscarâs 5* for it being a food oasis in a food desert. Limon, CO! Best âright off the highwayâ experience on our 4,500mi drive: service, food, kitchen efficiency, cleanliness, comfort. Itâs the first time weâve driven 650mi, walked in looking like it, then felt like we were on a little date night.
The whiskey collection is legit. The food is solid, I appreciated the fresh steamed veg medley. The decor/theme is fun. The menu is all over the place; I picture a huge freezer when I see these Cheesecake Factory style menus. But we played to the house specials and items the staff seemed to take pride in. Great pot roast. No carrots and potatoes like moms, but I appreciated the colorful and crunchy fresh veg medley, and the gravy was gorgeous. My wife ordered a pink sauced ravioli that came with a full loaf of garlic bread. It was piping hot and had fresh-made light cream sauce. I will order the chalkboard special here from now on.
My only gripe was the server rushing their check out. We were the last table in our servers section at 30mins to close. Bar side was busy but our family side was not. I wanted to stay for the good sounding deserts but got the âhey my ride is here and I canât leave until you doâ vibe. We got hit with the check mid-entree 30 mins to close while they swept and filled shakers. We got cones from McDonaldâs bc I promised my toddler ice cream after a 12hr drive.
Bottom line: fantastic oasis in a fast food truck stop and country diner (if youâre lucky) landscape. Prices are great value, meals are well executed straight forward recipes. I wonât hesitate to stop here again and I marked...
