Date Night over the weekend and I finally got my husband to take me to Restaurante La Union! Their menu is a combo of Salvadoran and Mexican dishes.
We were brought out crispy chips and salsa which were good. He got a Horchata to drink while trying to make his impossible decision on what to order.
I knew what I wanted. I love Pupusas and got one filled with just cheese, and another with Loroco and cheese. Plus the Platos Tipico, a plate of Refried black beans, Queso Fresco, Avocado, Fried Plantains, Eggs, and Cream with tortillas. I don't even like tomatoes but those were some of the best eggs I've had. Their sour cream has a slightly sweet taste to it and was yummy. I've been missing Plantains, I don't think I've had any since Stur closed. Everything was Delicious!
My husband finally decided on the Pastelitos with steak filling, kinda like empanadas. I told him he should get a Torta and he chose Asada for that, it was gigantic! Lastly, a meaty Pupusa filled with pork, beans, and cheese. He loved every bit of his order as well!
We were there late and it wasn't busy. Service was very attentive and we were checked on often. Portions were generous. We felt like we ate forever and still took like half of it...
Read moreYIKES. We walked in to a nearly empty restaurant, and were largely ignored by the server and staff. The server, who seemed confused or disengaged, brought out my only spouse’s food first - a steak - without a knife, then asked him if he wanted a knife with his steak. (!!) All the above is forgivable, but I asked her if my food was coming out, too, to which the server mumbled, “I’m not sure.” The dish came out, but the food was lukewarm and subpar; nothing special. The server asked if we wanted more chips, to which we said yes. She forgot and left and never returned with chips or to ask us how we were. Keep in mind, we were the only ones there. When we went up to pay, the entire area by the counter smelled like **sewage. The lighting is harsh and the walls are blank. Honestly, I’m astounded by the good ratings this place received; this experience was one of the least positive I’ve had in a long time. There’s also no beer or wine. For the love of god,...
Read moreA wonderful place if you like homemade pupusas, tamales, tacos, and more. My wife and I have eaten there four times in the past month--and I have had to restrain myself from going more often. I particularly love the tamales: banana-leaf wrapped, great flavor, silky smooth texture--and big. My wife loves the pupusas. Twice we've been accompanied by family members who are great cooks and really know Central and South American cuisine. We all agree the food is top-notch, and so is the service: friendly, fast, and helpful. I particularly appreciate that it's generally quiet, because that can be hard to find. They have outdoor seating as well. VERY reasonable prices. Highly...
