I really had some high hopes based on the Facebook reviews and word of mouth but needless to say I was incredibly disappointed and am going to be brutally honest here. I stopped in around 5:30pm on Wednesday afternoon, expecting it to be busier than what it was but there was not another soul there except for the worker who was not very friendly. When you walk into the building, it is kind of drab and dark inside so I got my meal to go.
I requested a bowl, half chicken half steak, with white rice and sauteed veggies. Everything looked like it had been sitting out all day, the rice was old and overcooked, the queso had been sitting so long it had a dry film on top and was crispy around the edges of the pan. The chicken had no flavor and it was honestly hard to distinguish between the chicken and the steak due to the steak being so cooked and flavorless. The sauteed veggies looked to have been sitting in oil for an extended about of time and were extremely overcooked, they had no bite to them just very soft. The corn had no flavor, someone literally just opened a can and dumped it into the pan, no butter or seasonings, but it was probably the freshest thing on the line. The salsa was pretty bland, I have honestly had better salsa from the grocery store aisle than this.
Overall I do not recommend this place, my meal was very wet and soggy, flavorless and stale. I paid roughly 14$ for this to go in the trash after trying to eat it.
Recommendations for the business:
Consider doing small batch cooking for the customer base, its better to have fresher ingredients and cooking more often than it is to do large batches and not have the business to push it out the door.
Considering different recipes for the rice(lime juice goes a long way) and the best ways to cook/store the rice so that it has more flavor and holds better on the line.
Try different overnight marinades for the meats, especially the chicken and the steak. For better holding, considering cooking the steaks to a medium (about 140F) as it will definitely hold up better to longer holding times.
Corn definitely needs seasoned and roasted, get a light char going on the kernels because even canned corn can come out good if its seasoned and cooked right. The peppers and onions definitely need to be cooked in less oil, it seems more like they were put in a crockpot and cooked then scooped out and put on the line. It only takes a few minutes to toss the peppers and onions in a pan with just a little oil.
I really wanted to like this place but I just couldnt. I think it can definitely be some place special with a little more work put in into prep...
Read moreLet me preface this by saying if someone else had written the review I’m about to leave and I had read it beforehand… I wouldn’t have eaten here. I’m not sure where the other 5 star reviews are coming from, and I mean that as respectfully as possible. We bought a chicken burrito and a steak burrito with the works. I will say, the portion size is large. However, the food was all dried out. Nothing had lids and everything was crusty and dry. The food was slightly warmer than room temperature. Absolutely no sign of a seasoning in sight, very bland. Which is probably okay with most people around here because not a lot of people season their food in this area. We went at 5:00-5:30pm. which is dinner time for most people. Our first sign should have been that the restaurant was deserted at that time. If you want a good burrito/bowl, head over to Compadres. The only reason we didn’t go there is because this place is open late and Compadres is only open until 2-3pm daily. I’m all about supporting new local businesses, but the food here just isn’t great for $11.99...
Read moreMy family went here for lunch and ordered two different burritos. This restaurant is clearly authentic, run by a local Hispanic family in a Chipotle style. The portions were huge, the food was delicious, and we both left feeling satisfied. We were even able to get a to go bowl and took some leftovers with us. The prices were more fair than anything you would see somewhere similar, such as Chipotle, and I love the opportunity to support local.
We ordered in but the interior doesn't offer anything special. There are restrooms and the restaurant is run counter style. You can see the ingredients and watch your food get assembled, which is fun. There are some coolers for drinks and trays for ease...
