Easily the worst meal and worst service I have ever had at any restaurant- I had been eye balling this place for months- I was supposed to take a trip to London KY in august that was delayed to April. After being seated, we were told that the kitchen had a longer wait than usual. We were fine with that. The service that we received in the mean time was awful. Our appetizer dishes and drinks were not cleared, (our first course of drinks were never cleared, even at the end of the meal when I had my 2nd drink, my glass from my first beverage stayed waiting at the table along with our appetizer dishes….it was a small table). I think the waitress was embarrassed about how long was waiting for the quality of food we would get- I got the mahi mahi which is easily the worst meal I have ever had at a restaurant in my life- my advice to the restaurant- don’t even offer it- you don’t know how to cook fish. I have literally overcooked frozen salmon in my oven that was less over cooked than this poor piece of mahi mahi. We ordered a wedge salad for starters, which had no dressing. The waitress never checked on us or asked us how anything was, so we did not get a chance to ask for dressing. My boyfriend got the sirloin, which was not seared. This place doesn’t know how to cook basic meals. This is not fine dining, but they are charging fine dining prices for awful quality food. The wait was fine, but the waitress did not make any eye contact at all. I don’t blame her because I would be very embarrassed of a wait that long (we were seated at 7:15 and did not get food until 8:40). We were not offered any beverages in our over an hour wait. Our water was was emptied in that time, and we were not brought new water (and we did ask). The food was not even hot when it came out, it was Luke warm which made it all the more disappointing. Luckily, we closed on our first house and were in a good mood. What a terrible way to celebrate. I would recommend everyone to not come here. HUGE waste of money. To spend that amount of $ and get the poor quality food and service is truly robbery. I just would suggest going anywhere else. Overpriced, overrated, poor service and bad quality of food. Just very disappointing and we wish we were treated with respect like you should treat a customer…… not completely ignore them and avoid all eye contact and do the bare minimum. Still tipped 25% but def should not have. We were truly fine with the wait, but the disrespect we received as customers during our wait needs to be noted and recognized, especially as very understanding customers. Business is understandable- rudeness and discourteous to your customers is not the way you should have gone about your business tonight. Very disappointed that I wasted a good amount of money on the extremely overpriced meal and service we received tonight. Drive through restaurants offer better customer service than this place did tonight, and I wish that is where I had gone instead,...
Read moreCool vibe and cute atmosphere. Cocktails are slow but strong and great selection. The Bees Knees with bee pollen is amazing. The old fashion depends on who makes it, so the quality varies. This time, it actually had more than a half oz in it. They have a fly problem because every time we go there I am always shoeing flys away from my table. I don’t know if it comes in from kitchen and that concerns me if they are landing on the food before it is served. As for being allergy conscious, they try since they have a GF menu but for other allergies, like me who has a severe dairy allergy, they say that everything is made to order but that is incorrect. It is premade and cannot be changed. The Salmon on a plank is my only option every time I go there and the sides fall off the plank easily. The salmon was nice size but it came with overdone peas and some fingerling potatoes with some sort of burnt on sauce in the plank. No way of getting any sauce. A salad with a refreshing vinaigrette would have coupled better than the peas. No other depth of favor was provided. My main complaint and reason for writing this is that they charge for substituting ANY side. And I totally get that they may get a lot of requests to change sides from the prearranged menu but our server said despite my allergy of being unable to eat the side, say the cauliflower purée because it has dairy in it, that I would have to pay $3 per side to change it to just something I could even eat. I was wanting to order the filet but would have to change all the sides to something else on the list as they all contained dairy she told me. So I just went back to my regular Salmon.
Furthermore, even tho you can get in fairly easy on a weekend night for a party of two, the wait for your drinks and food is consistently a long wait. That’s why I choose best for smaller groups. Overall, great for a small town and if you don’t want to change anything...
Read moreThe Fat Man recently went out of town for a work conference in London, KY. While I was there, I stopped at Local Honey for lunch. Local Honey says their food is made with love and fresh ingredients, especially for you.
I had the Local Honey Bacon Board, which comes with hand-cut smoked Lardon, Sourdough toast, house jam, and soft cheese. This was dusted with powdered sugar. The bacon was thick-cut with a nice crunch and a good chew with an excellent salt level. I got a nice crunch with the toast, which was buttered well. The house jam was an elderberry jam that was sweet but not overpowering. The cheese was creamy with a hint of garlic tagging, and the chives were slightly bland but paired well with the salty bacon. When you put all the components together, it reminded me of a Monte Cristo sandwich.
For my meal, I decided to try the Manhattan. This was prepared with slow-roasted beef, carrots, green beans, mashed potatoes, and brown gravy and served on Texas toast. The green beans and carrots were blanched and cooked with a little crunch but lacked seasoning. The roast beef was dry, chewy, and under-seasoned; however, I also detected a slight sweetness that was unfortunate. The gravy was creamy and smooth, with a good flavor and texture, but there was still sweetness. The mashed potatoes were seasoned perfectly and had large chunks of potatoes, giving texture to the dish. The toast on the bottom had a good crunch, and the amount of bread went well with the serving size. Combining the toast, potatoes, and gravy in one bite offered an okay bite in texture and chew, but the dry, flavorless, sweet meat and gravy took away from the experience and made the meal unable to be finished.
Local Honey offers a full bar with a brunch and dinner menu. The service was excellent, and the ambiance was neat for the space. The Fat Man says that Local Honey is NOT Fat...
