I have NO idea how this place has such glowing reviews. To start off... we placed an order at 2 pm on a Tuesday afternoon. We were given a pickup time of 2:15-2:30. We did not leave that restaurant with our food until 3:20 pm... and there was NO ONE In the restaurant!!
When we arrived Norah came out of the kitchen after about 5 minutes of us being there. She came out and said "you guys placed a big order and I have to go from pot to pot and make sure everything is right" so we said "no problem, take your time!" She was a very nice lady. But we placed an order of 2 meals and a couple sides... it took almost 1 hour and 30 minutes to get that meal made and there was nobody else there. What does she do if a family of four comes in to have a meal? We didn't order a lot at all.
We heard some great reviews, weren't from the area, and decided to wait assuming the food would be worth it. Sadly, this was not our experience. The food all had to be thrown out after a few bites. This "restaurant" should have pure grease and oil as a menu item. That is all we could taste, see, feel, and smell. Not to mention the fact that I needed to wash the inside of my car that now had oil stains on it... please look at the photos I attached. That doesn't even cover how bad the grease and oil was.
Nothing tasted fresh and everything was completely soaked with oil. Even the bag with bread had oil all over it. Not to mention she took all that time and still forgot two of the things we ordered. Maybe one day Norah had a great restaurant and that's the reason for some decent reviews. In our current day and age, not only would I NOT recommend this place, l urge you to STAY AWAY from the...
Read moreMy first time being in Longbranch visiting. So I was asked to pick a place to eat. I really wanted to eat at this Greek Restaurant right on the boardwalk. Unfortunately there was no parking space. The paid parking was $40 All day or for an hour. I was not paying that much for 2 hours. So we headed to Normah's Irie Jamaican spot. First we came in and ordered. She told us to wait outside for our food. Once the food was done I went in to pay for it. We had 1 Snapper dinner, 1 Goat Rottie dinner, 1 vegan dinner that came with beans and rice, cabbage, and plantains. We also had 3 homemade ginger beer drinks. The cost was $73.00. Now I am a big supporter of small businesses but WTH! We sat outside of the establishment and ate while using one hand to eat and the other fanning flies. After we ate and hit the highway my husband stomach started first. Emergency stop to the rest stop. He stayed in the bathroom so long I had to check on him. My stomach started a 1/2 a mile from home. Upon our arrival home I had to road runner myself to the bathroom. I spent over 35 minutes on the toilet. I have work tomorrow. I am a healthcare worker in a hospital. How am I going to take care of my patients if I may become one myself. I can't take care of patients running to the bathroom every 10 minutes. I have to wear protective gear 12 to 13 hours on the unit. This is the thanks I get for supporting. I will never return to that restaurant. Thanks for the food...
Read moreTo all you locals, you are so blessed to have Norah as a neighbor. Such a beautiful person and a wonderful soul. I haven't had delicious homemade island food like that since we were able to travel. I can't wait to go back. I'm glad we bought a lot of food. We will have leftovers for two more days. Everything we purchased was just fantastic the stewed beef, the jerk pork and the rice and peas... Always Staples when I'm down in the islands. Norah's did not disappoint by any stretch. As a matter of fact, there's a flavor in there that just makes hers over the top. Maybe it's love? Don't be afraid of anything on the menu, if there's something you haven't had, give it a shot. I don't think there's any way that something out of her kitchen could disappoint. Make sure if it's a banana bread day you take advantage.. her homemade rum cake is over the top and her homemade ginger beer is spicy and delicious. Come the nicer weather I will be buying that by the bucket load... God bless you Norah! I can't wait to be...
