Blue Dolphin Cafe — Restaurant in Longboat Key

I might have given this place a higher rating if we had actually been able to eat. Once seated after about a 10 or 15 minute wait, we were given water, then after about another 15 minutes, a young waitress took our order. The place was busy and the wait staff looked harried. The 3 of us at the table chatted and waited almost an hour. At that point we could see other people who had been seated after us begin to get their food served. I then flagged down our waitress, who had not visited our table since taking our order, and was standing by the order pickup area. I asked whether they had forgotten about us, and she said no; so then I asked if the cooks had even begun to prepare our order. She checked for and found our order slip hanging in a line of them by the window, and said no it had not, and began to explain that they only had 2 cooks on duty. I stopped her and said to cancel our order, and we left to cut our losses and start over at a new place. We have been coming to this place for 15 plus years. Maybe even longer. The last few times we have came we noticed not just the service has gone down to what it used to be but the food quality Lacks as well. You were used to wait out the doors in a line to get in in the service there was impeccable along with the portions of the food and the quality of the food. Now it's like you walk into a ghost town of a restaurant barely even greeted and there's no more specials there's no more personable touch to anything in the restaurant as well. You can tell that there's been a change of hands and that whoever is running the show does not care anything at all about this place. We said last year we would give it one more try when we came back this year. Well Sunday was our last time stepping foot in this restaurant again. Revisited after a 10+ year Longboat Key vacation gap. The location's staff is attentive and busy which is good. Our server I recollect from our visit long ago which means the staff is tried and true. If you chat a little might get a little more attention than the normal tourist. Anyways, had an omelette (tallest, largest every) with seemingly fresh o.j., buttered rye (yes rye) toast and fruit - very good and filling. This restaurant visited by locals and travelers alike. In the Longboat Key area, this restaurant is on our list and remembered for the pretty good food and service. We've previously visited their St. Armand location but the seating is very narrow room so congested and the ambience different. Longboat Key location more spacious, booths. Would visit again.
