Delicious Southern Cuisine is a family-owned restaurant with great service featuring delicious Southern, Cajun, Creole and Soul Food at affordable prices.

Located steps away from the metro with free parking in the rear. Plentiful ready-made meals, snacks and drinks available for easy purchase make this place a great option for takeout on-the-job or on the way home.

Everything I've tried here is good. The barbequed ribs are melt-off the bone tender. The smothered chicken is a crowd favorite and very tasty.

The seafood gumbo, my favorite dish here, is made to order and worth the wait! The small sized portion of seafood gumbo is big. It's a decadent stew with okra, onions, carrots, and a savory caramel rouix and a really generous portion of fresh crab, shrimp, fish and other shellfish. My family and I compared it to famous restaurants in Louisiana as we enjoyed eating it.

I found this restaurant thanks to posted pictures online from grateful customers who ordered big platters of takeout food during the pandemic. Delicious Southern Cuisine restaurant offers catering services for large events and big trays of Soul Food for budget prices.

Gumbo has a long beautiful history. It is America's national soup! The name Gumbo originates from the west African word "ngumbo" which means "Okra". Okra was brought to the United States by enslaved west Africans who carried the seeds in their pockets.

Native Americans introduced sassafras and file to Gumbo. Spanish and French chefs added rouix, "the holy trinity" and peppers in their versions. Louisiana-style gumbo is known for combining the contributions of many cultures.

Southern Louisiana style gumbo originally featured a rich combination of seafood and shellfish with plenty of okra, -similar to the gumbo here.

Yesterday, on JUNETEENTH, 2023, I picked up takeout food for my beloved family member's birthday dinner. It was a great day to see this restaurant serving customers and the community.

During the parade and JUNETEENTH celebration I watched hands giving fist bumps, reaching out to pull up people from the sidewalk and pushing elderly people in wheelchairs to this restaurant.

Live music and DJs performed as thousands of people danced through the street.

A weathered American flag waves in the wind perfectly centered across from this restaurant for everyone to view on the cute patio tables in front.

I overheard lots of compliments about the food while I waited in line to order from many happy restaurant guests.

A famous gumbo chef and great Lady, Leah Chase said every problem can be solved by sharing a bowl of gumbo. Leah's seafood gumbo recipe looks a lot like this restaurant's version.

African American contributions are the star of America's national soup. I tried to recreate this dish at home with love in tribute and it came out pretty good!

I am absolutely done with this place! I will never, ever, never, ever, again Darken the door of this Establishment! And I will let everyone, I mean everyone that I know to do the same! I went after the Fires to order Dinners for 3 Suffering families due to the loss of their Altadena Homes, and I order by phone.. I was quoted a certain price by phone... I was quite clear on what she said... However upon arriving at the Eatery to pick up my order... I was given a different price by the Owners Daughter... She has an extremely Smug and Nasty Attitude!!! And it's nothing new! Then she screwed up the 2nd order as well... Again... Her Attitude is extremely Smug and Nasty, I could care less if her father is the owner, I will not be spoken to or at as if I am a liar after having been A faithful Patron there! Her Huffing and Puffing as if she were some type of Dragon trying to put out a fire didn't bode well with me. When I went in I was being polite but after trying to explain the error in pricing and ordering she acted as if I were trying to get something for nothing, when I only wanted what was the original price quoted to me by phone and my order done properly. Then after almost 30 minutes she accused me of not paying for Yams! I thought she had rung them up so I brought them out to the car, she then asked... Did you pay for those? I said yes... Didn't you ring them up!? She no I didn't... But you can have them! I said... Certainly not! I took them right back inside and left them on the counter! If her attitude hadn't been so nasty I would have let it go... But she has very poor social skills! And you can't have Poor social skills when your in the Restaurant business should you choose to keep Loyal customers! Vidal, who is the owner I believe is a decent man , however when I called and left my phone number to speak with him 3 times... My call has yet to be returned, at the least... And I do mean least they could do is apologize!!! In any case.. I will take My $$$$ and all of my Church members and family, and Friends elsewhere to dine and tell them never to Darken the door of this Eaterie again until attitude adjustments are made ..if then! Folks... Go to where you are respected period! Stop settling for any old place no matter how good the food may or may not be I would rather have bad food and great customer service, than Good food and Horrible customer service! It's your choice! Again people... Wake up!! Do not put up with there Nasty Attitude no matter how the food tastes or the prices! Don't patronize any establishment which doesn't respect you! Put them out of Business... You have...

UPDATE JANUARY 2024 Still delicious. A la carte style which is preferred. The portions are huge. They do well with making some of the canned foods taste fresh. If you cool you'll know the difference. If you don't cook, it all tastes fresh. I still come here about once a month. My go to is bass fried fish, collard greens, yams, mashed potatoes, and meatloaf. The corner muffins are basic but taste best in the collard greens pot liquor. No indoor seating available. I eat in the car and watch YouTube. Da real deal soul food. Many dishes are freshly made and they do a damn good job doctoring up the can. Located in South Central Los Angeles, across from the historic Leimert Park. Hole-in-the wall, rated letter "A" and delivers on impact every dish. Family owned and culinary trained by southern cooks. Excellent customer service, friendly interactions, non- pretentious and respects the community that the restaurant is established in.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner. Eat-in or take out. You can buy one rib or you can buy a rack.Dishes can be purchased a la carte or as specials. Delicious prices are representative of the dishes. Most southern places are overpriced and under-deliver. Portions are huge and can be shared. Traditional southern desserts and delicious perfectly moist cornbread muffins. if you've never tried meat loaf, try it here. But you won't be able to get meatloaf as good as this place unless it's your mom's kitchen. Usually only available after 3. Potato salad is an art, Delicious has it perfected. Yams are delectably sweetened without causing diabetes.
