Incredibile Pozole. In 30 years of traveling Mexico from Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua in the north to Ciudad Hidalgo in Chiapas, I have never had a bowl of Pozole Rojo as good the one I had today at Gallo Giro in Canoga Park.
The restaurant is known for its various baked goods and today the Roscas are selling as it is the Day of the Magi. But is is really an undiscovered gem Pozole is concerned. I was assured by the Manager, it is a company recipe.
But back to the Pozole. From it's beautiful fatty sheen and deep red color-almost crimson broth-- to it's on the spot seasoning, this heavenly concoction must be lauded and celebrated. They nailed it. They really did. I have visited Quiroga, Michoacán (the supposed birthplace of carnitas and Pozole). I have been to Guadalajara, Jalisco where they, too, make claims of excellence when it comes to this hot and spicy elixir of the mesoamerican ancestors. To be fair, they are standouts but this unpretentious strip mall joint that is just one more addition to the growing Gallo Giro chain has the goods--in spades.
While ry review is limited to this location and the Pozole herein, I would venture to say that all would fare well since it's care in quality was one thing Javier, the gentleman in charge at the Canoga Park location assured me about.
One last thing, my very positive experience with the food and patience with Javier was augmented by the care and the sweet and professional demeanor of the young lady behind the counter-Nora. To her, Javier, and Gallo Giro, my tummy owes a debt of gratitude for an excellent meal and a very positive dining experience.
To the fair reader of this review, skepticism is always a good thing. Don't take my word for it. Visit and order the Pozole. Specially on a brisk, rainy or blustery day when the desire for spice and hearty warmth in the belly is the...

As I wait they decide to help an employee on her way out to make her a handpicked sandwich which took forever. Once she leaves then they proceeded to make my order keep in mind over 40 minutes at this point have gone by.
Finally my food is ready and unfortunately completely wrong and not what I ordered. I did notice the employees not paying attention while laughing amongst themselves I knew my order was going to be wrong. I was right and got a refund.
Save your self time and an unpleasant experience. Their food is definitely not worth all that trouble. So many better Mexican places to go to!...
