I’ve never heard of Jim Dandy, but found that it is quite popular within the community. While visiting the area, I happened to stumble upon it and decided to go for lunch!
The exterior is a perfect example of what and establishment designed in the 80’s would feel like. The retro logo and the sun kissed colors give the whole space a cool vibe. The interior feels as if you’ve stepped into a maximum security prison or bank vault. The tellers are placed behind super thick walls of what seems to be bullet proof glass!
Remember to note that there is no room to sit and enjoy your food, it is strictly a take out only kind of place.
There menu is simple and straightforward, with chicken being the main entree. Be on the lookout for hidden specials, and make sure to ask!
I ordered the 3 piece chicken, one spicy and two regular with a side of rice and 2 corn fritters! It was kind of fun to receive my order through a glass box!
The chicken was delicious! I enjoyed the texture and would actually order the spicy chicken over the regular. The spicy chicken had a really nice kick to it, adding a new layer of flavor and spice! The corn fritters were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It was like eating a pancake or donut hole, but with little bits of corn kernels inside! I also really enjoyed the rice cooked in chicken broth. It made for a great side and had a nice flavor to it as well.
Loved the food, but because it’s take out only, it wasn’t as fresh as I’d have liked it to be by the time I got it home! For those who are more local and haven’t tried, I recommend hopping into your car and ordering...
Read moreI Decided to Order some chicken on Sunday Being it’s the Lords Day, I’m off Work , And I was feeling Good Today. So I called this Bisness to Get some Chicken . I ordered the Chicken at 10am , And asked it be ready at 1pm. I Arrived to the Busines at 1:07 pm . I got A Pan of chicken, and It didn’t have that Hot smell that I was looking for . Pan (2) was Hot but not as I was expecting. I brushed it off maybe it was just the handles so I took it home…
..I just don’t understand I bought a 50 piece And 12 fritters that was hard . The chicken was Not Fresh at all it wasn’t the Jim Dandy taste I was looking for .One of the things I was Disappointed is that I would spend that Much Money ($90.00) for old chicken and that was NOT HOT!!! Usually When you Get chicken it would be too hot to carry ,and it would be smelling real good very upset….I tried to call Back (9x) No one answered but When I Called to Place the order (2x) in the morning i got an answer. It felt like they were were watching the Caller Id … Very dissatisfied with my order The Main Reason for this is Because People work too hard for Their Money , And Deserve Good Quality Food Being a Well Known South La Landmark, I I would expect Good Quality Food . Not saying that The Customer Service wasn’t Good , When someone finally answered the Young lady phone etiquette was Good. But I was expecting Better Results as to Getting The Order right...

I mostly prefer the original crispy with some of their hot sauce on the side to their spicy fried version, but I occasionally get a little spicy fried chicken, too.
All of the other things on the menu I could make as well or better -- or find elsewhere. I usually just order the chicken...and sometimes their corn fritters, too. They are quite tasty. The rolls are sometimes stale...but the chicken is always PERFECT!
Their chicken is juicy, super crispy, beautifully textured like the batter was whipped full of air, and always fried to flawless perfection....and I can't replicate that. Even the breast is damn delicious, and I'm a hardcore thigh girl. I desperately want to know how they prep it. So jealous. I would work here for a week for free to get that recipe/prep tutorial. I usually like my chicken with more complex seasoning, but they nail a simple one that doesn't overwhelm the chicken (and shines with hot sauce!)
This looks like a restaurant if you're driving by, but it's really just a large stand with a small interior vestibule for ordering through bulletproof glass. Order loudly or speak into the speakers or THEY CAN'T HEAR YOU. There is nowhere to dine in, although I have just sat in my car in the parking lot... since it's really almost impossible to get home without eating at...
