I've had a somewhat inconsistent experience with this establishment, and I must admit it can be quite frustrating. On multiple occasions when I've ordered pancakes, waffles, or French toast, the missing syrup issue has surfaced, affecting about 4 out of 5 of my orders. When I initially raised this concern, the owner's response was dismissive and lacking in attentiveness. Despite my intentions of sharing this feedback to help them improve and continue my support as a satisfied customer, the owner's defensiveness and unfriendly attitude were disappointing.
There was an instance where I ordered a club sandwich with only Turkey and bacon, explicitly excluding ham. To my surprise, the sandwich that arrived only had ham and no turkey. The lack of effective communication in this case was an issue. It's frustrating because it gives off the impression that the owner isn't invested in the quality of service, which can have negative implications for their business.
If the owner were more willing to consider reasonable complaints about order accuracy, missing key condiments, and a general lack of attention to detail, my perspective might shift. I believe constructive feedback can make a difference. Initially, the owner's tone wasn't the most accommodating, and the repeated use of the "buddy" felt condescending, making it hard to communicate my concerns without interruptions.
Despite these challenges, I do appreciate several aspects of the restaurant. Their burritos are truly delightful, and when their pancakes come with syrup, they are a treat. The French toast and omelets also hit the mark. The only real disappointment was the ham sandwich, which was accompanied by what seemed to be stale, hard and crispy fries.
Today I ordered another breakfast burrito, my 5th order here, and French toast. I asked for a side of salsa and a side of sour cream. When I got the food, I had a side of salsa, but no sour cream and no syrup for the French toast again. As I stated up above, this has happened already four times where I ordered waffles or pancakes and they’re not sending syrup. I finally called because I’m the kind of person who will just stop going here altogether and never go back because of this but I love their food so much and they have good potential so I called and I told him and he defensively told me I didn’t put sour cream in there because you didn’t pay for it. And I told him well then I need you to charge me for it or make it possible for me to order a side of sour cream so that I can get it and don’t just leave it out of the bag and not communicate why. I’ve had people call me before and say hey I’m going to need to charge you for this and then they do that but his approach was really childish and immature and said a lot about his communication. I told him that there’s nowhere for me to go, and I had a side of sour cream, and that I would be more than willing to pay for it if he made it possible instead of addressing this, he was dismissive. He was always talking to me like I was trying to steal from him or swindle him out of sour cream when really, I just thought that it would make my burrito that much better. I told him about how they keep leaving this year about and eventually he apologized, but all in all it didn’t feel sincere and I really hope that I don’t have to interact with him again because if it’s not pleasant, I will stop coming here. There isn’t a single dish in the world that would make me go somewhere that doesn’t respect or even appreciate their customers. My approach was very nice and my intention was just to let him know to be more intentional about checking the bags to make sure that your customers get the things that they pay for. to not be able or willing to listen to that is not a good sign when you’re saying that you’re owner.
My main desire is consistency. I hold a genuine affection for this place due to its proximity and the potential it has to offer. I'd truly love to continue my support if they can address these issues and create a more consistent and satisfying...
Read moreJoe's Diner had been popping up in conversations for weeks, so my spouse, friend, and I finally checked it out for breakfast. Let me tell you, everything we'd heard was spot on! The space is small and charming, with a classic diner vibe and nicely decorated adding to the coziness. The staff (just two folks!) were welcoming and attentive, keeping our coffee topped up and checking in just the right amount. Coffee's a big deal for me, and Joe's didn't disappoint. Strong, dark, and fresh, it was the perfect way to kickstart the morning.
Our friend dug into the ham & eggs, a picture-perfect rendition with crispy hashbrowns and comforting pinto beans. It reminded her of breakfast at her grandma's, which is the ultimate compliment! Portions were generous, and everything was cooked perfectly. My spouse devoured the eggs benedict, raving about the made-to-order hollandaise that was smooth and flavorful.
Now, here's the star of the show for me: the breakfast burrito. As a self-proclaimed breakfast burrito connoisseur, I have to say, this might be the best in San Pedro. I ordered it meatless - substituting mushrooms, spinach, and extra pico (thanks for the bonus points, Chef!). Not only did they nail the veggie-packed filling and perfectly cooked eggs, but the lightly pan-seared tortilla took it to a whole new level (most places just warm up the tortilla). The homemade salsa was the perfect finishing touch.
Joe's Diner has earned a permanent spot on our breakfast/brunch rotation. Highly recommend!
P.S. The fact that the chef was up for customization without hesitation shows they care about customer satisfaction. Bonus...
Read moreSuper clean, cozy, and reminds you there are still good people in the world. We were seated immediately. This location is set to support about 14-16 people in the seating area, so keep this in mind. The gentlemen that took the order was patient and attentive. We were able to actually see him cooking too. Not only was the kitchen super clean but he also cut the fruit and veggies for the meals to order. Clearly defining customer service and elevating the experience. While the only thing that I wished was different, being a father with many children, it is always a guarantee that someone has to use the restroom. He was very polite in letting us know the restroom was in the back and to just let him know if we needed to use it. All and all a great experience. Thank you...
