Visited Picaresca during their soft opening. A delightful experience from the ambience, staff, beverages, and food. Honestly, its situated in a perfect location, giving the option to enjoy your drinks and meal either indoors, at the two outdoor tables, or take it to go and enjoy it at the park across the street.
Ambience:
During their soft opening, it was packed, but we were still greeted by the staff. As I always say, being greeted elicits a warm welcoming feeling and overall adds to the experience. The indoor aesthetics draw out the times I would step inside a cafe or coffee shop in Mexico. A chill and subtle Mexican interior design, making it perfect to decompress or bring friends/family to enjoy what Picaresca has to offer.
Drinks & Food:
I ordered the 16oz drip coffee, since no pour-over option was present in the menu. My partner ordered the Cafe de olla hot latte. Pastries were wiped out by the time we arrived, so we decided to order the breakfast burrito. The drip coffee was ordered as is with no sugar nor cream, in order to taste the profile of the beans. The coffee was good, it was neither bitter nor acidic, more on the toastier side but enjoyable to the last sip. Once the breakfast burrito was dropped off at our table, it arrived with a side of salsa verde to compliment it. The burrito was not thin nor small, it was packed and large, worth the $8-12 we paid. Upon finishing my coffee, I asked my partner for a sip of her cafe de olla, let me say… the notes of cafe de olla were drawn out for each sip taken, executed well. The cafe de olla presented notes of poloncillo and cinnamon, without one overpowering the other.
If you are reading this far, the best time would be to visit during the weekdays, a ton of foot traffic during the weekends due to Picaresca being situated in this new location. Additionally, their official menu is out, offering different types of food items such as chilaquiles. I would definitely say, order the cafe de olla, you can’t go wrong with that and additionally the burritos are well worth it.
Would I return? Of course, I need to try their Mexican mocha, matcha de olla latte, and food items.
Would I recommend this location to friends or family? Of course. I brought my mom a cafe de olla hot latte, and she was even surprised by how tasty it was (Mexican moms tend to be skeptical towards Mexican food items here in the states).
With that being said, don’t miss out on this gem. I will be back soon, to review other items and add...
Read moreI was very disappointed with the customer service here. Mostly because they stand on supporting and welcoming immigrants and having so much support towards the Latino community but dont act very welcoming. On my first visit I was not even greeted by the young woman at the register. She had no basic common customer service skills or maybe just didn't care to use them. I ordered the chicharron breakfast burrito and a regular breakfast burrito and thought they were good, so for this reason I decided I would come back and hoped that my experience with the staff would be different but unfortunately was met with the same if not worse experience. The food was still good but this time a different young woman who didn't even say hi or smile took my order. There was hardly any acknowledgement or eye contact. It just felt once again uncomfortable and awkward. After I received my order which was a breakfast burrito and an omelette, I asked if I could please get some hot sauce for the other dish. The woman with a very dry attitude told me she had already given me one and if I wanted another one it was gonna be extra. One tiny container for sauce per 2 items and 2 people is quite stingy and not very smart for any food establishment to give. I didnt insist and settled for one sauce and shared with my friend. On my way out I didnt notice that there was an area for the dirty dishes and eventhough I took the dishes back to the register side counter to hand over, the woman told me with an attitude that I had to take it over to where the napkins and utensils were which I then saw where under the table. I don't think I'm coming back to this place simply because of the customer service. Food and coffee are good but the people at the register had awful attitudes. By the way the music is ridiculously loud and nobody...
Read moreI have been an OG fan since they were located on Soto St and have been constantly coming here at least once a week because the coffee and chilaquiles are fire! I should say WERE. The past 5 times I've been here, it has been a let down. I'm not sure if the recipe for the red salsa was changed for the chilaquiles, but this salsa ain't it. They constantly mess up my order since I always ask for over hard eggs and my order always comes with over easy. I order red chilaquiles, they give me green. I order a hot lattee. They give me iced. I started to get my receipt texted to me so I can double check my order. During my last visit, I ordered a hot latte and was given iced. I informed the barista this, she rolled her eyes when I showed her my receipt showing "hot" no "I'm sorry about that" or nothing.. she just walks away and remakes it. Mind you, I have gotten the cafe de olla latte for years. I know how it tastes. Idk if she was upset or something but it tasted like their drip coffee with hot milk and the syrup. Nothing like the latte I normally get. Idk if your employees need to get paid more or something? But they look miserable and provide no customer service. The only three people that look like they enjoy their job is a guy with an eyebrow piercing, Reina, and Carlos. These three are always so sweet and welcoming no matter how busy it is. I used to happily make the 40 min round trip drive.. now it's not worth it. I hope they can improve because they used to be...
