Today I stopped in to Stop In donuts in Van Nuys. As I parked I gazed upon a facade characteristic of the quintessential SFV Donut shop. Like most this donut shop serves a variety of snacks: sandwiches, chips, and of course cigarettes, but this faded red and yellow proclaims in no uncertain terms the focus of the establishment: Donuts. I was beckoned away from the chairs and boxes haphazardly strewn upon the shops only booth seating, to the flawless glass display case, where I chose between an assortment of standard donut varieties, all of which looked fresh and inviting. The overall fung shui of the space follows the directive of the name, asking you to stop in, and get out as quickly as you came, with a few hundred extra calories in hand. But at least one gets the feeling that the surfaces have been wiped down in the last month, which can’t be said of many other places of this type. I went with two familiar favorites, the french cruller and a strawberry jelly filled. And Though I was forced to eat them in my car, rather than inside the shop, they were both perfectly sweet and delicate, fresh tasting, utterly delicious and at $1.25 a piece, I was totally fulfilled, 4.5...

You’re not desperate enough to do fast food, but you tell yourself to keep an eye open for anything on the way. Well, this was that spot on the way.
