Since my original post, I took the opportunity to actually go to get tamales at the restaurant. It's a walk up, so I got chicken, cheese, pork and pineapple. Took to my family and I even brought home leftovers. Froze them and I've been eating a tamale every few days. I do wish the pineapple one had actual fruit chunks, the cheese could use more rajas of chile, but nonetheless, they were good. Pork is shredded, ok but not spicy at all. My corn tamale had cobb pieces, like the popcorn hard pieces of kernel skin? They do give you green or red salsa to add for flavor or spice. What all the tamales have in common is the masa, it's soft. Some other tamales are dry, these are perfect. Original post: My nieces live in Pacoima, but I found these tamales at the local Bellflower outdoor market on Mondays. It's 3-7 pm off Bellflower and Oak by the public parking lot. OMG, delicious. My nieces came to visit and they said, yes these are good, they get them at home, so I got 2 chicken and 1 cheese , both were soooo good. No time for photos, not even the second time I went to get some, I just had them as dinner.. They're $4 each, but the size is pretty big, very filling. You can get them hot or frozen, we got them hot enjoyed them at home. The guy was very friendly, they take cash or card, they go to all the markets and their restaurant/store in Pacoima the price is slightly lower. But local to your door, almost your door, $4/each is still a fair price. When I go to see my family in Pacoima, yes I will stop by and get some. The corn one was good but had a little of the cob parts, so maybe I won't have that one again. Will try all...
ย ย ย Read moreI attended the AV Winery Farmers Market today and purchased three tamales from The Original Tamale Company booth. While I was excited to try them, my experience was unfortunately overshadowed by the unprofessional and rude behavior of the woman working there.
After ordering, I politely asked to change the flavor of just one tamale. I even apologized for the inconvenience, but instead of handling it with basic courtesy, she rolled her eyes, sighed loudly, and made it very clear through her body language and attitude that she was irritated. What should have been a simple adjustment was turned into an uncomfortable and unpleasant interaction.
I had hoped to sample the tamales today so I could decide which flavors to purchase for my family dinner. However, because of the way I was treated, I will not be returning or recommending this business to others. No customer deserves to feel like a burden for making a small change to their orderโespecially when they are being polite.
I wanted to share this experience so you are aware, as customer service is just as important as the...
ย ย ย Read moreI first got introduced to Me Gustaโs tamales at the farmers market in Little Tokyo. Since then, I would crave their tamales! They have pop ups in farmers markets all over LA. What makes Me Gusta soo good is their soft masa, and each tamale is the size of a burrito! I would highly recommend their pork tamale in both the green sauce and red sauce! Their pork is very tender and juicy! The sauces compliment the meat really well! The green is salsa verde more acidic but refreshing, the red is spicer but more smooth. I also love their sweet pineapple tamale! It reminds me of a upside down pineapple cake without the cinnamon. Itโs really soft and not dry at all. Great as a dessert! I always order dozens for each of my friends after I got them all hooked! They offer deals on dozens and itโs cheaper to buy them chilled. You can store them in the fridge for 3-4 days or pop them in the freezer. When I want a tamale, (the chilled ones) I just cover them with a wet paper towel and microwave for 2 minutes. You can also steam them if you donโt mind the wait. This is definitely...
