As a pizza place this deserves zero stars. As a family restaurant it is a pretty comfortable place to hang out. I am suspicious that most people who rave about this pizza grew up with it and haven't otherwise thought much about what makes a great pizza.
As for the pizza, I am fairly confident that Dion's holds the world record for least amount of sauce on a pizza that is supposed to have sauce. If you peel up the cheese you might see some pink discoloring as evidence of a tiny amount of sauce. You might then think that ordering extra sauce might fix that problem but, no, you end up with a worse problem. If you order a Dion's pizza with too much moisture on it what you get is burnt bottom crust and uncooked upper crust. I can't remember for sure ever trying the extra sauce idea but that's my experience with too much moisture time and time again from various locations so I don't see the point. Beyond that, their cheese is salty and low quality, like Peter Piper Pizza cheese-like stuff. Even their pepperoni is suspiciously unlikable for a reason I have yet to identify. I am also baffled as to how they make a green chile and cheese as unexciting as they do. But, to be fair, I have yet to find a green chile and cheese pizza in Albuquerque that beats adding green chile to a DiGiorno 4-cheese. (Hint: it's quality of green chile and not quantity.)
Their sandwiches and breadsticks are okay. Some really like their lemonade but I find it to have a weird sweetness to it somehow caused by their making it with powdered sugar (and I thought that long before I knew about the powdered sugar). And their green chile Ranch dressing is not nearly as good as it sounds. So, in summary, maybe if you took a bowl of that marinara sauce that they serve far too little of with their breadsticks and dumped it on top of your pizza (or dip into it) you might have an...
Read moreDion's, what can I possibly say that hasn't been said one million times already? You wanna pizza? They have those. You wanna buttery garlicy bread? They have that. You say you wanna cheesy garlicy buttery bread? Well sure, they've made that for you to have.
This place is a hotbed of first time employees. Every sad angsty teen gets their first job at Dion's and boy you'd never be able to notice in the quality of the food. Somehow leadership has managed to keep the teenage depression and apathy from influencing the quality of the pizza, sandwiches, garlicy bread, and salads. Oh yeah, did I mention they have salads? Pretty great too, if you're a freakin' rabbit or veggie tales character eater. Anyway, my mom says I have to get off the phone and wash up for dinner. Grampa is coming over, and he just hasn't been the same since they had to put Gramma in hospice a couple weeks ago. They say she doesn't have long to live, but I'm too afraid to go visit her. Do you think I'll regret not seeing her in her last week's or months on this earth? I hope not, but mom says I will. I don't care though, that place gives...
Read moreThe review isn't for the food. Whether you go with Pizza, sub or Salad, the food always tends to be good, if not great, at least when they get your order right. The 2 stars are for this specific location.
As other reviews stated, this location has a horrible track record when it comes to customizing your order. Even though the app makes it so easy to remove or add items from your order, the workers either choose to ignore the difference or just don't notice it. There have been multiple orders I've made for a Veggie sub with no mushrooms, only to have a huge pile in the sandwich. Also, this location seems to consistently fall behind it's online orders. Just today I had to wait 30 minutes for my order after the time they said it'd be ready. I wish this location would do better. I spend a decent amount of money here (it's one of the few places the kids will eat at), and it's surprising that they do something almost every time to disappoint. I wish I lived closer to a different location, just so I could...
