We ate here 25 June 2023; it wasn't my first time, as I remember going to this location (the only one at the time) several times as a kid and at least once when I was a new adult, but it was my significant other's first time, ever. I have been to another location in the past, but that was at least ten years ago and it was definitely not what I remember Sadie's to be; sadly, this most recent visit to the original location was not what I remembered, either.
It mostly looked the same, which was nice and brought back memories for me... but it's still so different, between the people working there and the way things are run now. However, that wasn't my biggest issue with Sadie's - the food is definitely not the same, and it's so expensive for such low-quality. We weren't impressed by any of it, though the taquitos were decent enough, but the rest (especially the sopapillas) were awful. It also messed up our stomachs later, which was an even bigger reason we won't be returning.
The server we had... he tried, he really did. He was clearly having a hard time keeping up with everything and wasn't finding things easily on the electronic device he was using to take our order (what happened to good ol' pen and paper?), but he was also gone for long stretches of time when he was supposed to return with things and often forgot things he was supposed to bring. We didn't ask for much, but what we did ask for, was a struggle to get.
It wasn't a pleasant visit, and considering it was a couple of months ago, I didn't expect to still be annoyed by it all... but that's what I've experienced while writing this review. We won't be returning, and that's a shame; I used to be all about Sadie's, so long ago, and now I'm just so disappointed in it. I get that things change with the times, but when they aren't GOOD changes, that's a problem.
It is beyond my understanding how there are so many good reviews. It seems people will eat anything and pretend it's of decent quality, just to stay loyal to their...

My daughter wanted to celebrate her birthday at the 4th street location. When she mentioned this I cringed and re-lived my past experiences with Sadies's (this location and others around town) and remembered, "I really don't like the food there".
I am a proud New Mexican and after reading a lot of the reviews, especially the ones that gave 4 stars noted that the majority were not native to this city or even New Mexico. I'm a bit embarassed that people who visit NM want a high quality, good tasting experience of NM food.(this isn't it)
We ordered and the food was quick to our table, but the flavors were not good. Immediately my thought was that this some pre-made food which was quckly put together and placed under a heating area. The sauces, both the red and green (we had both) were in direct conflict with the dishes they were served with and the mix wasn't good. I did taste them apart from the Chicharones and burritos they came with and individually they weren't bad. But, they didn't not compliment they food they were intended to compliment. The burrito was a mess, it was smothered with green, which was really pink due to the tomatoes/or tomatoes sauce which was added. Either way the green was not good with the burrito, I think it was the addition of the Spicy ground beef inside the two flavors didn't mix well at all. The spicy ground beef is another area which was an issue. It came with potatoes in it and the potatoes serve more as a filler than for flavor. They would be better if the beef was flavored with spices without the spice and no potatoes. I had the brisket nachos, without sour cream or beans, the cheese was okay while it was warm and the brisket was mushy. (no bueno).
If I were a tourist and someone suggested this place, I would be angry. People visiting and want Good New Mexican food should go to Casa De Benavidez, El Brunos, El Pinto, Los Cuates, Papa Felipes, Monroes, or some such place.
My family and I will not return for the food. Maybe for the drinks on happy hour,...
Read moreNestled in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Historic Sadie’s on 4th Street is a culinary treasure that offers a truly authentic Southwestern dining experience. As soon as you step through the doors, you are enveloped by a warm, inviting atmosphere that is steeped in history and charm.
One of the highlights of dining at Sadie’s is the complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa, a secret recipe that has been perfected over the years, is so exceptional that it has found its way onto the shelves of local grocery stores. Each bite of the crisp chips coupled with the tangy, spicy salsa sets the stage for a memorable culinary journey.
The menu at Sadie’s is a testament to the rich culinary heritage of New Mexico. The Huevos Rancheros, a traditional dish, is a delightful blend of flavors. While it was enjoyable, it didn’t quite reach the heights of the version served at Flying Star Cafe located at Paseo Del Norte. However, it’s important to remember that taste is subjective, and what may not be a favorite for one might be a delicacy for another.
Another standout item on the menu is their popular sopapillas. These fluffy, deep-fried pastries are a staple in New Mexican cuisine and Sadie’s has certainly mastered the art of making them. The sopapillas are light, airy, and perfect for scooping up the last bits of your meal or drizzling with honey for a sweet ending.
The service at Sadie’s is commendable. The staff is attentive, ensuring that every diner’s needs are met promptly and with a smile. Their dedication to providing excellent service significantly enhances the overall dining experience.
In conclusion, Historic Sadie’s on 4th Street is a must-visit for anyone seeking to savor authentic New Mexican cuisine. The excellent food, commendable service, and the warm, inviting ambiance make it a worthwhile culinary...
