More Than a Meal, It's a Metairie Institution
In the heart of Old Metairie, nestled amongst charming shops and quiet neighborhood streets, lies a culinary gem that transcends the simple definition of a sandwich shop. Blue Line Sandwich Co. is that rare establishment that feels less like a restaurant and more like a second home—a place where the food is crafted with passion and every guest is treated like family. For anyone who has yet to experience its magic, consider this your urgent invitation.
Let's start with the food, the brilliant vision of Chef Brett. The menu is a masterclass in elevated comfort fare. No box grits here. Everything, from the breakfast staples that kickstart your morning to the hearty lunch creations, is executed with a noticeable commitment to high-quality, fresh ingredients. My personal obsession, and a must-try for any first-timer, is The Cuban. This isn't your average Cuban sandwich; it's a perfectly pressed masterpiece. The slow-roasted pork is tender and flavorful, harmonizing beautifully with the ham, Swiss, pickles, and mustard on crusty, authentic bread. It is, without exaggeration, one of the best in the city.
For those with an adventurous palate, the Duck Duck Goose Waffle is an absolute revelation. This dish is a symphony of sweet and savory: a fluffy waffle topped with succulent duck confit, a perfectly fried duck egg, and decadent foie gras, all drizzled with a rich cane syrup gastrique. It’s inventive, indulgent, and utterly unforgettable. But the culinary excellence doesn't stop there. The soups are always a highlight, and their gumbo is simply amazing—a deep, rich roux packed with the authentic flavors that Louisiana locals demand and deserve. The salads are crisp, creative, and far from an afterthought, offering a fresh and delicious option for a lighter meal.
However, what truly elevates Blue Line from a great restaurant to a cherished institution is the service. In a world of impersonal transactions, the team at Blue Line makes a conscious effort to build genuine connections. This is where Jayla and Brandi shine with a brilliance that other local restaurants should study and aspire to. These two are the heart and soul of the front of house. Walking in and being greeted by your name by Jayla or Brandi isn't a gimmick; it’s a sincere gesture of hospitality that makes you feel seen and valued. Their attentiveness, warmth, and encyclopedic memory for regulars and their favorite orders create an atmosphere of unparalleled welcome. They orchestrate the dining room with grace and efficiency, ensuring that your experience is flawless from the moment you walk in to the moment you leave. This level of personalized, genuine customer service is the secret ingredient that makes every meal here special.
And don't forget the extras that complete the experience. Blue Line serves up fantastic cocktails, with their Bloody Mary being a standout star—perfectly spiced and garnished, it’s the ideal companion for a weekend brunch. Furthermore, their thoughtful inclusion of delicious gluten-free options ensures that everyone can partake in the experience, a testament to their commitment to accommodating every guest. Blue Line Sandwich Co. is the total package. It's Chef Brett's culinary artistry, the unforgettable flavors of the Cuban and the Duck Duck Goose Waffle, and the comforting perfection of a great bowl of gumbo. But most importantly, it's the warm smiles and personal greetings from Jayla and Brandi that make you feel like you truly belong. If you're looking for fantastic food and service that will restore your faith in hospitality, look no further. Don't miss out on this Old...
Read moreFor being in business 8 years, this breakfast / lunch spot got by me too long probably bc they close for the day at 2pm & the outside is pretty non descript except for the small blue & white sign stating the name. I don't live in the area but pass through often enough to finally see why this place has lasting power. You can't see from the outside, but upon entering, you wonder how long you'll have to wait to get a table. The menu is easily read in chalk on blackboard style above the ordering line of ppl constantly filing in. There is an easy flow of patrons arriving & leaving so the wait gives you time to go over the menu while you wait your turn to pay at the counter before your order is prepared. Salads are large wt lots of finely chopped veggies, nuts & tossed wt dressings that don't overpower leaving you feeling like you ate something substantial not just leafy. Sandwiches are hearty on rustic bread wt ample offerings that don't get lost btw the slices. Cocktails can be had from opening time if you choose one over coffee or tea & change up wt the seasons. Duck & mushroom gumbo is a must if you can get it wt it's expertly seasoned dark roux !! Great on...

We ate breakfast here around 9:30 on a Tuesday morning and was one of three parties.
Order at the counter, then go sit your butt down. Took about 5 minutes for our food to be brought out.
I had the blue line breakfast: 2 eggs, scrambled, sausage, potatoes and a biscuit. Eggs were perfectly cooked. The portion of potatoes was very generous and the biscuit was huge.
Significant other ordered a breakfast panini with bacon, egg and, cheese with grits. Must have been good because she ate it all.
If you're the bougie type who likes to drink alcohol with your breakfast, you can get sauced up with their bottomless bloody Mary offer. Coffee, soft drinks and tea is also available if you're not a lush.
For lunch, their menu offers a selection of soups, salads, and sandwiches. There's also a small menu for kids available.
A selection of wines and craft beers is also available along with fresh squeezed juices.
Give this place a try if you're looking for a...
