Came here last night with my parents. Just moved into the area and did a Google search of what was around. That's Amore came up with pretty good reviews and so I thought I'd give it a try.
Service was just a bit slow, but thats because the house was absolutely packed. Literally. When we walked in we were lucky to snag a table, which they cleaned for us immediately. Our server was very kind, welcoming, and saw to us quickly. We ordered a pitcher of beer, an appetizer, and 16 inch New York style Supreme. We knew the pizza would take a little bit, so we were more than satisfied with the Fried Mushrooms; which were amazing by the way.
The owner checked on all of the tables, introduced himself, and we had a really nice chat. Overall it seemed the atmosphere was very open and welcoming. The employees were in high spirits- it didn't seem like one of those places with good food and bad service because people hate working there. Quite the opposite. The service and attentiveness actually made the experience more pleasant.
It was busy from beginning to end, which is great for business. We were leaving as they were seating a party of 16 30 minutes before they closed- which I suppose is dedication!
Overall- the food was great. Maybe Im not a Chicago or New York pizza snob, but I found the thin crust on the New York style to be very crispy and airy. It wasnt heavy at all! And the amount of toppings they had piled on was well worth the money. FYI a 16 inch serves 4 people +, we should have gotten a smaller one. And the fried mushrooms were absolutely incredible. Whoever created the recipe on that needs to be given a handshake and a raise, because Ive had a lot of fried mushrooms at 4 and 5 star restaurants. And these? These blew everything out of the water.
I will most certainly be going back. The new owner of this place has really made this restaurant something to be proud of. Im super glad I...
Read moreGreat service and very good pizza, but not quite to my taste. Let me say up front that I do not care for sweet pizza sauce so my opinion should be considered with that in mind. Except with regard to my comment on Chicago pizza, which I stand by. The service is always great and the staff friendly and helpful. We have had regular pizza here before, and I have to say it is quite good, except that I do not care for the sauce.
The Chicago style pizza is true to the structure. If you have never tried Chicago style pizza and have been wanting to, I definitely recommend trying That's Amore's version. It does appear to be properly prepared and is very, very good. It may seem expensive for a pizza, but let me assure you, it is a good value. I doubt there are many people who can eat to slices. I am a big eater, and I could only manage a little over a piece and a half. And it is not crust; the crust is thin. It is the ridiculous amount of topping and cheese. My quibble is with the sauce. Chicago pizza does not use a typical pizza sauce but special canned tomatoes. We were recently in Chicago and ate the real thing at Lou Malnati's as part of a food tour. The host at Lou Malnati's gave us a detailed explanation of the history and process of Chicago style. Pizzeria Uno in Chicago is credited with the concept, but Lou Malnati was supposedly the chef/cook who developed the recipe. Making a Chicago style pizza takes 45 minutes, and it seems like That's Amore has that part right. The crust, which is thin, not thick, is piled with a ton of topping (I like Italian sausage) and mozzarella and baked for 20-25 minutes. The crushed tomatoes are then added and the pie is baked for another 20 minutes or so. The finished product is over an inch thick, most of it topping, cheese and tomatoes on the thin crust. I think if That's Amore used proper tomatoes instead of their sauce, their Chicago style pizza...
Read moreI really hope it was an off night for their sake; but, I will not return as a customer.
they had 7 wait staff, with a "whoever is available goes" culture. 6 of them came to our table throughout the evening, none of them introduced themselves or said they were our server. 90 minute dining experience, and I don't know who my waitress was.
the constant changing of waitresses was chaotic and even disruptive. One waitress took my order, another confirmed it, another confirmed it again. We ordered an app with one, another brought plates, but the plates didn't belong to our app, so another cleared the plates. It was just needless.
they cleared multiple times, interrupting conversation. I finished with the apps before my wife, so they cleared my plate and not hers, then 2 minutes later cleared hers. During dinner, she finished her meal a bite or two ahead of me and again they cleared her plate while I'm eating. These constant interruptions really killed the atmosphere for us.
lastly, they didn't seem to care about us as customers. After clearing our plates, they made us wait quite a while (which was ironic) then brought us the bill without asking if we wanted a desert (which we did). So we left and got a desert somewhere else.
As for the food, the deep dish was sunken, which was really weird. Because it was sunken, the top half of our crust was very dry (like a cracker). That said, the flavor was fine and the...
