From Feb 25th, 2021...I'm glad I chose not to order from this place:
GOLDEN WOK 700 Colonial Road, Harrisburg Date: Feb. 25, 2021 Type: Regular Compliance: Out Violations: --The Person in Charge did not demonstrate adequate knowledge of the Pa. Food Code as evident from the violations observed in this inspection report. --Observed numerous ingredient containers to be heavily soiled with old food debris and soil accumulations. --Observed three swollen jugs/containers of milk stored below hand wash sink. Items discarded during the time of inspection. Corrected. --Observed numerous extraneous containers of chemicals, containers, and utensils stored inside hand wash sink rendering sink inaccessible during time of inspection. Sink was cleared and access was provided during time of inspection. Corrected*. --Observed leaks on both faucet heads of the large three-bay sink. --Observed excessive clutter and storage of items against walls in the following areas rendering areas of facility hard to access for cleaning: Front food storage alcove, hand wash sink and single bay food preparation sink area, and dump/mop sink. --Walls located behind equipment located in rear food preparation areas are holding old food debris and stains and are not readily cleanable. --Storage racks, used to store/air dry cleaned sanitized utensils were observed to be heavily soiled with grease accumulations and static dust. --Observed an uncovered container of shrimp being stored in direct contact and on top of a container of pre-cooked pork located inside front chest freezer. Pork was discarded at time of inspection voluntarily. Corrected. --Observed a sliced lemon resting in direct contact with raw shelled eggs located inside Bain-Marie cooling unit. Lemon was voluntarily discarded during time of inspection. Corrected. --Observed numerous food containers stored open, with no covering located inside chest freezer and in walk-in cooler. --Observed raw produce stored directly inside raw chicken boxes (boxes that were originally used to store raw chicken as stated by manufacturer). Read moreIt's unfortunate to see a number of bad reviews here. This is my husband and I's favorite take out Chinese in the immediate area (general Colonial Park area)...and we have tried many. We have never had a bad experience here once. Not only do we prefer their food over others, but the prices are much more reasonable as well (and in this economy!)...
Perhaps our experience is different because we don't order delivery. We live within a 3 mile radius, and so it has always made more sense for us to just go grab the food ourselves (for us it just makes more sense: the delivery times are always longer than if you just get it yourself, and I have a vehicle and it's not a big inconvenience to me to just go grab takeout, so why pay someone to do something I can easily do myself?). So, I can't speak for the delivery service in my evaluation.
As far as the language barrier goes, I guess it's simply what I've come to expect when ordering from a Chinese (or Italian, or Indian, or whatever...) restaurant. I don't expect an exchange of communication on the same level of an American restaurant...and I don't need that. They're short and to the point, and for me, that's all I really need (I prefer to avoid all "obligatory" small talk, if I can help it, haha).
Until something gives us a reason, this will remain our "go-to" Chinese take out. As of now, I have no complaints and only positive experiences (and we've ordered here many times). So, I guess, you'll have to decide for yourself, but I'd say it's at least worth giving this...
Read moreOrdered delivery online and it estimated that it would take 40 minutes. I understand things happen so a little late is fine. But it was an hour and a half when our food finally arrived. My husband asked the driver for the total and he acted like he didn’t speak English. Once we opened the food, everything was COLD. We called the restaurant and the lady said she didn’t believe us and we would need to come there with our food. We own a business, pizza shop actually (we wanted something different tonight) and couldn’t leave. I even said if I could leave I wouldn’t have ordered delivery. She just kept repeating that we needed to come there for a refund and she didn’t believe us. She said everyone does that.... so I guess everyone has problems. She hung up on us multiple times. Finally the driver came and took the food back. Our food was $26 plus the tip. The driver only gave my husband $20 back and then asked him if he wanted the tip. So now he conveniently spoke English. Will never be...
