This past experience could be our last. We visit Cape May several times a year and Jake’s is normally our go to place. Good food at reasonable prices. We already went there this trip and had a good meal. We had Army friends visiting so we decided to go to Jake’s for the prime rib special. We got there about 5 pm and had about a 30 minute wait. My friend ordered a steak medium well (aagh!) and his wife the crab cakes. My wife and I had the prime rib. I ordered medium rare and wife’s was medium. They brought out the meal and I could tell mine was overcooked. It was medium to medium well. My friend’s steak was medium rare. I told the waitress and she went to return it. She brings it back and says the manager said it was the last piece and apologized she couldn’t return it. I switched with my friend since he likes his close to well done. We got the check and the waitress began apologizing about the prime rib. One of the manager’s did a drive by asking how was everything. I obliged and said not very good. Mentioned the prime rib and she said I didn’t order correctly! I told her how it was cooked and she said it was medium. I told her I ordered medium rare and it wasn’t. Then she starts telling me that if I wanted it rare, I should have ordered rare. Then she asks if she can get me anything else then offers to take it off the bill. We’re sitting there looking at each other wondering what just happened. We’re all in our 50’s and 60’s, been to a lot of restaurants around the world, and this is the first time any of us had an experience like this. The customer is never right and it was my fault it wasn’t...
Read moreOrdered the tortellini w/scallops & shrimp and it was way too salty. I ate the 2 pcs of ea. scallops and shrimp because they were fine. When the waitress came to table I told her my dish was very salty but that I ate the seafood that was fine and she got very annoyed and quickly took off and didnt even hear me finish.... so if I could of finished my sentence.... it was that I didnt need anything else and was glad to pay for the meal but please tell the chef so the next person who ordered the dish might be saved from ordering an inedible entree. She went to the hostess/mgr. and they both discuss my situation while both looking at my table, making me very uncomfortable, the waitress came back and told me because I ate the seafood I would have to pay for my meal but offered a side dish in place of the pasta. I told her exactly what I wanted to tell her before she went off very angry, that I was not looking for anything else just to please let the staff know it was to saltly. What I don't understand is the fact that in a well run establishment I would think the manager would of at least came to the table and spoke with their customer. My guys loved Jake's for Saturday prime rib but we all agreed that this place after many years of being a frequent customer choose to spend our money elsewhere and will be sharing our experience there tonight with all of our family and friends. Even thought the waitress was extremely rude I personally blame the management for without good leadership don't expect their employees to be...
Read moreNew owners. Food not quite as good as with the old owners and prices are up. The new look is nice and a lot brighter. Glad they got rid of the carpet. Have to give it another try I guess…….. Well we gave it another and last try. Wondered why there were empty parking places on a Saturday night at 7:00. Thought we were just lucky….. not. The food was way sub par and the portions were child size. Nothing like old Jake’s. Tiny salad, stale rolls. Don’t do baked potatoes any more. French fries, potato wedges or mashed. I got a tiny two bite portion of mashed potatoes and 3 small slices of pickled beets. (Used to get a nice bowl full of them at Old Jakes)and my wife’s potato wedges were cold and greasy. Told the waiter but no offer to remove them from the tab. We’ve been eating here for 20 years……But we won’t be back. They won’t be in business long. Trust me. So sad to see a place we loved go down hill so fast. FOLLOW UP Well as a follow up we gave Jake’s another chance but I’m sorry to say again we were very disappointed. Things haven’t changed. Small portions, higher prices and disappointing food. Such a shame. This used to be one of our favorites. Not so much any more. Haven’t tried their pizza but I don’t think we will go back for that. Can’t imagine any previous regulars...
