Farmhouse Bakery — Restaurant in Lufkin

My boyfriend ordered a cake for my birthday, picked it up from a bakery in Nac and immediately asked if they could at least change bday to birthday …among the many problems with the cake . The cake was suppose to be a fun bright orange base color, with hot pink edging and lettering. They told him no and so he brought home the cake. He called a few places and Farmhouse had the sweetest staff to look at the pictures and tell him to bring it in immediately so they could scrape the icing off and redecorate it how it was suppose to look. We needed it for a party the next morning and this was already almost 3pm when he called. So he made the drive to lufkin and it was so worth it! Went into the store to get some sweet treats, I’ve never had a king cake so we had to get one, grabbed a couple different kinds of cupcakes. Needless to say we definitely ate with our eyes while in the store, everything was so visually appealing, sadly the appeal stopped there. The king cake, had been previously frozen after being baked so the texture of that glorious enriched dough was all wrong and very dry. We grabbed chocolate cupcake filled with strawberry a pecan pie cupcake a slice of carrot cake (my fav). Pecan pie cupcake was bitter and underbaked, carrot cake was not spiced nearly enough also there were dehydrated carrots in it so I can only assume it’s a carrot cake mix. “Sad” The chocolate was so dry, so disappointing. I do not live in Lufkin, but was visiting this day. I had been wanting to try this bakery for a while. I got 2 scones. Cranberry almond and blueberry. I wanted something not too sweet, but what I got was toothache inducing sugary sweetness. There was WAY too much sugar for these to be called scones. The dried cranberries were sweet, the scone was sweet and the icing was sweet. I heated them up the next day, and the blueberryone was a little better with coffee. The texture was doughy and grainy and quite dense, not fluffy and light. I really wanted to like them, but these are not for me.
