Burek is realy good and daily fresh. I stopped by and bought a lots of items for my family in NW suburbs. But I wanted some sweet treats and bought kremipa, šampita and tulumbe. They looked wonderful and fresh in the display refidgerator, but the lady that worked there quickly pulled out pre-packed clams boxes of items I had ordered, I even agreed to by two of each-instead of one as it was my first intention, because they were packed in pair. I brought them home and wanted to have a sweet treat with coffee with my wife and son. Krempitas were SPOILED and sour!!! We had to throw them right away. Šampita was edible but old and stale with grainy mouthfeel - we tried and tossed it. Tulumba's were also old and stale, very hard when chew instead of airy and fluffy. They should take better care of stock rotation and discard perishable items that are old and stale and spoiled. I always had a high opinion and good experience with Balkan Bakery until now. I hope they won't spoil their reputation by selling...
Read moreI have been wanting to stop at these bakery for a long time and I finally did. My mother and I decided to stop and get something for breakfast. I was extremely surprised when walking in because I thought it was just a bakery. It is more like a small store. It has all sorts of items food, drinks, household items personal items, greeting cards etc. my mother and I ordered the spinach and feta burek and I the mushroom burek. I'm not sure how this item is supposed to be since this is the first time I have had one but it I enjoyed it and so did my Mom. I also bought a slice of the orange and chocolate cake. This too was yummy! We will definitely go back and try a coffee and another dessert. I think the burek will be something I can buy and have for my lunch. The lady greeted us and was very helpful explaining the different flavors of items. Overall, I'm glad we stopped in and we will...
Read moreHaving recently in the last 1 year visited Serbia I was introduced to Burek, which I had for breakfast each morning with my friend, accompanied by a yoghurt preparation. Having returned to the states, the memories came flooding back and I embarked on a quest for burek. I found Balkan bakery, and dropped in for a visit. The bakery is a small place, but full of confectionaries and european imported products. They had frozen burek to take home and make, frozen cevapi ( excellent little kebabs) to take home and grill, and innumerable snack items of european origin.
The woman running the bakery was very kind and attentive. I took some burek to go, and it was excellent. Crispy and chewy and the meat delicately spiced. Yoghurt was creamy and sour like i remembered. I will return next time I'm...
