More than anything else that I am about to say, I want the take away for all that read to be "Hire More Staff."
I walked in around 12:45p. 12:50 actually because I'd just got off of the phone with my wife. I got my food at the same time that I decided that I didn't want my food anymore after a long wait, around 1:40p. Here's the middle part of that story:
When I stepped in all of the tables were dirty with the exception of two one seater tables awkwardly placed. After sitting down at one of the one seaters, the guy checking people out offered to clean an actual table off for me, I obliged. He went back to checking out customers, as the line was getting longer. After a few minutes the same guy came from behind the counter to take my order. I ordered the taquitos lunch special and cheese dip. Essentially chicken rolled up in a tortilla with refried beans and rice. Assuming that the refried beans and rice are made in bulk as they come with basically everything on the lunch menu, rolling up chicken shouldn't take too long long right? Wrong. As I sat at the table I noticed that other customers were looking as I would soon look. Annoyed, hungry, and ready to go. Then...oh then a group of cops, SWAT actually, walked in. No big deal right? Meh...This comes into play later. I'm not afraid of cops per se. But sitting next to a group of SWAT isn't the most comfortable of things, especially given the political climate around police at this time.
With cops come cop conversations. Did I mention that they sat next to me? Ugh... I listened to them drone on about guns they own, want to own, SWAT training, previous calls they've been on, reports etc. Which still would not have bothered me, but I didn't have anything else to occupy me since...my food still had not come out. A while later, big surprise, the table of cops get their food before me. That's when I gave up. I got up to stand in the now long line to tell them I no longer wanted my phone and would have been successful in cancelling my order except that the line to check out was almost back to the door in. I couldn't tell the ONE WAITRESS serving the ENTIRE restaurant, BY HERSELF, because she was literally sweating, cleaning tables, and serving food coming out of the window as fast as she could. I felt bad for her.
As I was standing in line, she finally sat my food at the table. At that point I asked her to just bring me a to-go box. I tried to justify the experience and pacify myself with the thought "You know...I came right after a lunch rush." But checking the restaurant hours, this place closes at 4p. So...this IS a "lunch spot". Therefore it makes no since at all that there is only one waitress serving an entire floor. Finally, after paying I boxed my food up and after scraping it into the box I licked the fork... Well damn...the food is AMAZINGLY delicious. So much so that I almost sat back down. I would have if I didn't have to leave to go to work. I hadn't planned on staying as long as I did. As I was leaving, yet another Fulton County SWAT truck was pulling in. That's when I put two and two together..."Ohhh this is a police hang-out." In total I counted 4 cops and three cop trucks, not counting the one pulling in.
All that being said...I STILL want to try this place again. But I know now I'm going to have to go in the off-peak hours given the unnecessarily limited staff.
TL/DR: Amazingly delicious food, if not the BEST Mexican food I've had in Atlanta. Not enough staff,...
