Check out this Midwestern gem!! Tried this place for the first time tonight and was a bit apprehensive as I'm never truly impressed with tiny Illinois bar/grills. We walked in and it was a bit of a wait for our table of four. Totally fine, I don't mind a wait. My only complaint was that there isn't much room for waiting parties. A restaurant this good should ideally be able to expand. Again, totally fine, not bothered by this at all. When I tell you it was worth the wait, I mean it. Even with the small entrance and people piling up, the main bartender was absolutely on top of seating people quickly and efficiently. When we got our table our server, Heather, greeted us in an impressively timely manner between bussing tables, taking care of her other tables and running drinks and food. We did wait a good while for our entrees (about an hour) but again, TOTALLY worth it - apps came out within 15 minutes and entrees were fresh, hot and delicious (even with the wait). The wait was a lot easier to handle compared to most other places similar to this one, because Heather was so quick with the drinks in the meantime. On top of the amazing food, friendly and helpful staff, and attentive service, the prices are almost TOO reasonable (in this economy?! We love to see it). Highly recommend this place, you will not be...
Read moreWe decided to make the short drive to Mackinaw to finally visit Haynes on Main. We prefer visiting small businesses to show our support. Honestly some have been a bit underwhelming. We were so very impressed with this restaurant from the minute we walked in. We were warmly greeted and our server Kenzie was top notch. I was in the mood for a good burger and instead got a great one! “Smashed” and cooked perfectly and served with sweet potato fries. My husband enjoyed the pepperoni and sausage pizza and commented it was one of the best he’s had in awhile. Crispy light crust, perfect sauce/meat/cheese ratio. The kitchen has no door and you have full view if you’d like of the chefs in action. Very clean and obviously well managed kitchen. I was fortunate to catch a performance by Facebook famous Mike The Singing Chef! Our meal came to just $32 and was very well worth it. I don’t drink but did sit at the bar after lunch and enjoyed a wonderful conversation with my new buddies Kenzie, Katie and Sydney. Their personalities are definitely part of the appeal and I look forward to seeing them again. If you haven’t made the short drive from Bloomington to Mackinaw to try them, you’re missing...
Read moreWhen you walk into the front entrance you have a feeling of a casual but sophisticated restaurant which is not overstated but welcoming and comfortable. The service was amazing because they came over to our table within 1 minute or two of being seated. My friend and I wanted to try and IPA but we weren't sure what it tasted like so they gave us a free sample before we ordered. There was large TVs to allow for sports aficionado has to enjoy watching your sports but yet still had a sophisticated and slightly romantic tastefulness. The risotto balls were a delicious appetizer. Then I ordered a chicken boom wrap which was filled with a slightly spicy flavor with jalapeno peppers lots of vegetables in a huge wrap. The potato salad that was on the side and comfortable lucious and mouth-watering chunks of potatoes. My friend have a side salad with four large and full of vegetables and lettuce. Overall this is a very comfortable and welcoming restaurant that I would definitely come if I wanted to hang out and be one of the locals even if I wasn't a local and make you feel like you're one...
