Akari Sushi — Restaurant in Madison

When I first started ordering from here it was great. Slowly it has completely deteriorated. I order delivery almost everytime, and not only has my food (usually just a philly roll and gyoza) taken an average of an hour and a half to get here, but half the time my gyoza will be stone cold by the time it’s delivered. One time I was waiting for my order, after an hour and forty mins, I called the store to ask about it. Turns out they hadn’t even started on it, but if I wanted to pick it up it could be ready in twenty. I was hungry and decided to pick it up, not only had I already payed and tipped for delivery, none of which was offered back, but when I arrived at the store 20 minutes later my food was still not ready, they actually hadn’t even started it yet. Now in hindsight this incident was during the first few weeks of quarantine on a friday night, they were clearly in over their heads. However there is now a pattern of consistency in their slowness, unprofessional wait times (they should have stopped taking orders, a place can only handle so much), and overall lack of care for the customer. I received no call that it would be longer, nor a notification of how busy they were, had I known I would of tried somewhere else. I do not recommend this place. Mediocre selection, average food. I've ordered delivery from here several times now. They leave an ETA on the online receipt, as most restaurants do, for about an hour from when I place my order. But they ALWAYS come way sooner! It's great! The fastest time they ever came was in less than 25 minutes. The man who makes the delivery is very chipper and sweet. I'm also a picky eater, so I make ingredient substitutes on my orders. They follow my wishes perfectly every time. I even just ordered and had to call to make a change on my order, and both the girl and the lady on the phone were very nice. Their sushi is the best I've ever had. Glad I found a place I'll happily order from for a long time. I know their restaurant is new, so I hope their business...

I drive past regularly and honestly was wary of getting sushi from a tiny place in a dumpy strip mall. For one of my daughter's birthdays recently she requested sushi. She is used to "grocery store" sushi but we had several people to feed and so looked at sushi places. The wife and I have had "high-end" sushi every so often but the places we would be talking about would be quite pricey. Anyway, we decided to give this place a shot. We were pleasantly surprised with the quality and amazed at the final bill. We got a nice variety of rolls and appetizers. Nothing was bad, all fresh and tasty. It was a hit and about $85 to feed 8 so more than reasonable. I think this may be a hidden gem an excuse to have...
