We visited Omegas after 2 years of not dining in due to the pandemic. We have been coming here for at least 30 plus years. We love the soup here especially on Sundays. As well as their baked goods & many of their other dishes... skirt steak, roast chicken, etc. We read about all the safety precautions they had in place during this time & decided to stop in for a bite. It was a Friday so I ordered the scrod with baked mac & cheese. I asked the waitress if it was a good choice & she agreed that it was, that many people really like it. However when it was brought to the table, I was not impressed in the least. I got two small pieces of tasteless fish with the baked mac & cheese on the same plate. The fish had a substantial about of fluid under it. The mac & cheese was pale, lumpy, with a yellowish orange lethery piece of something on one side of the plate. (See attached photo) I asked the waitress what was the yellowish leathery thing on my plate & she said it was a piece of melted cheese. I told her I was sorry but could not eat it. She offered to bring me a baked potato. The meal came with soup or salad. I got the salad to go. When I got home I decided to have my salad & the lettuce was partially brown! My husband got the hot turkey sandwich, which was made up of small shredded pieces, (not slices of turkey) smothered in gravy. He said it was just ok, not something he would order again. I also ordered the pot roast which came with potato pancakes to go for a family member. It came with 3 slices of beef, nothing else & two small potato pancakes. The pancakes were kinda rubbery like when something is microwaved. I was so disappointed with the food. It use to be one of our favorite places to go eat at on a weekly basis. Not sure what happened with the food but it was quite bad. Not worth the money we spent.. Bad fish, small portion, terrible lumpy mac & cheese & brownish salad. It was just over priced bad food! We tried to do the right thing by patronizing a local business during these difficult times. But based on this visit I don't think we will be going back. Sorry Omega you've lost a loyal...
Read moreOmega is open 24 hours a day, has a high capacity and can accomodate a very large crowd. There are plenty of daily specials here and senior discounts are offered as well. The menu is notibly large and offers pretty much anything from omelets and crepes in the morning to BLTs and salads at lunch to pasta and ribs for dinner. There's a small bar, a refridgerated bakery case and a small room with slot machines here. Omega is a nice and likeable restaurant, yet odd to have to write a review for. Having lived so close to it for 20 years it very clearly is not the powerhouse restaurant it once was, yet, can still hold its own. Menu wise the dishes are largely the same, but the quality has taken a noticable dip. No longer can you find crossaints in the complimentary bread baskets and during my most recent visit the breads were for the most part pretty stale. The soups have been the most frustrating part of my recent visits because these soups used to be housemade and have an amazing taste and quality and now they taste very generic, like they're out of cans. Omega does their due diligence with Greek inspired dishes, and those have always been pretty solid and tasty. My favorite thing here is the whole boneless chicken, it takes forever to make but it's worth it. They used to serve this with cottage fries, which were great with the sauce the chicken was prepared with, but they discontinued those. The pasta dishes are also pretty large although I don't think their white pasta sauces carry as much flavor as they should. I also like the patty melt, chicken wings, fries, and bialys out of the bread basket here as well. If you're out and about at 2 in the morning, Omega is a 5 star visit. Nowhere else can you get the wide variety this menu has to offer at those hours, but during the day when other options are plentiful, Omega almost feels like an afterthought. I've had plenty of good times here, but the glory days for Omega are clearly those...
