The line at Dairy Queen was way too long and the wait at McDonald’s was even longer so I searched for “ice cream near me” on Google Maps and Jake’s Cree-Mee Freeze came up. This was a shop I routinely pass with my kids who always beg me to go every time they see it so I decided this would finally be the time I said yes. My review: Excellent ice cream. Even better customer service! Despite a line forming behind me, the staff remained patient and understanding that this was my first trip to Jake’s Cree-Mee Freeze and my kids and I were simply overwhelmed with the many flavors, textures, and dishes of ice cream available. To make matters worse, when it was time to pay, I didn’t have enough cash and they don’t accept debit/credit cards. The staff directed me to the ATM next to their shop but it was out of order. Now with an even bigger line having formed, I nervously grinned at the person who was helping me, pointed to my kids who had melted ice cream all over them by this point, threw my hands up in the air, and silently mouthed to her that I promise I would be right back with the cash! I’m sure I didn’t give her any choice at this point since my kids had started to lick their respective ice creams and I myself had my ice cream running down my forearm. The ice cream person nodded yes with a shy disapproval accompanied possibly with some anxiety on her end that I probably wasn’t coming back. The last thing I wanted to do was get this person in trouble for trusting this stranger to keep their word so I hurriedly drove to the Wawa’s a mile down the road to use their ATM and returned with cash in hand and a very (hopefully big enough) thank you tip. What was turning out to be a regretful disaster of an ice cream outing with the kids turned out to be a funny story and grateful review...
Read moreWhat a bad experience today, we purchased 4 hard ice cream cones and one flavor, the peanut butter twirl was so soft, it dripped all over my hand and on the pavement when they handed it to me. I showed them and asked for a different cone or flavor that wasn't melted because they must have been having a freezer issue (it was only 62 degrees outside and there was only one other person there). I was told by the young lady who served me that once it was handed to me, it was mine and if I wanted a different one, I would have to purchase a whole new cone. I explained to her that when I went to taste the ice cream, it litterally pushed off and fell onto the parking lot. I was told once again, that it was my problem because I accepted the cone. By the time payment was due, the cone had made such a mess, that I threw it out and told them that I would not paying for that cone. I was told I'm not losing my job over you, you took the cone, it's your problem and was charged for the entire order. This is not the way you handle a family business. I've brought my kids here several times before, but will not be returning to this establishment because of how we were treated. All three kids who were with me were shocked about the way I was treated and were clearly upset the whole car ride home. For such high and glowing reviews, Jake's needs to do a better job of training on proper customer service and how to keep their product frozen. Very disappointing since we travel by there every week for practices and games at the Monroe...
Read moreI am a local who was looking for an alternative to Jersey Freeze, but Jake's has many of the same problems. We ordered three medium cups of soft serve which came to a whopping $21.
I asked for a peanut butter fudge sundae expecting ice cream, peanut butter, whipped cream, peanuts, and a cherry. I received an overfilled soft serve cup with a dab of fudge, tiny reeses pieces, and too many peanuts, making it difficult to eat without making a mess in the car. (It was cold and no seating was provided.) When I complained they handed me a separate cup of peanut butter which I apparently was supposed to somehow add to their creation.
The elderly couple I was with received one of their cups with a lid, smashing the ice cream into a block, and one without a lid. We were not originally asked if we wanted lids. When my aunt asked for no lid, they peeled the top off and handed the blob back to her.
Would it have hurt to ask more questions or present the purchases in a way that was enticing to...
