Family of 5 without children went here for dinner. Atmosphere was exceptional. Christmas Decorations are beautiful and the fireplace warm and welcoming. We were soo happy to see the old silver tavern back. It's been ages since we were at the original place for those of you who remember. I like to refer to the old place as the Regal Beagle. A nod to the Three's company TV show. But now they need to call this place the "New" Silver Tavern as it's interior is modern and well appointed. Be aware the prices have increased quite a bit since the old tavern. Burgers start at $22 and a half chicken dinner special was $28 Long gone are the $8.00 burger and fries along with my favorite $12.99 steak with sauteed mushrooms and onions with all the sides. That being said the food here is good. The fried shrimp appetizer was fabulous as was the lobster Mac and cheese. Burgers were cooked exactly like we asked for, medium rare. That is a compliment to the chef.
Now the not so good part: The downfall of this first visit back was our waiter who I shall call "Skippy". Skippy the wonder waiter disappeared after taking our order. Our dinner came out an hour later kinda cold and many of our side orders were wrong as in wrong veggies, wrong salads, no ketchup, A1 sauce and we waited so long for someone to come back that all our drinks glasses were empty. Now that all sounds awful but we realized that our adorable young waiter "Skippy" was locked in conversation with the pretty hostess at the front and completely forgot about all of us. Love and friendship is cute and all but he had a responsibility to follow through with our table. I had to get up and go after another wait staff member who was quick to react and start correcting all the order flops. Now it's hard to know if the kitchen staff should have read the order better. They may also take some accountability for it being prepared incorrectly as well as the 1 hour delay it took to get it out. We will never really know. The other wait staff member sent the manager over who apologized for the delays and messed up orders and graciously removed 1 burger dinner from our bill. Skippy eventually came back and apologized himself. We ended up taking all our side dishes to go because we had finished the main dishes by this time. Sadly Skippy suffered a subtraction in his tip. My family always tips 20% and more during the holidays but not for Skippy on this night. He barely made 15% Hopefully He will do much better on the next go around. We will certainly give the place another chance. And I recommend you try it out as well. I think they have a good thing going here they just need better communication and flow of food service. If Skippy had given us as much attention as the pretty lady he could have made enough in tips and...
Read moreThe look of the "New'" Olde Silver Tavern is Awesome! I have only been there twice, the first time was in the Dining room to the right of the Hostess stand which is a bit more quiet. Our second visit was in the Larger dining room behind the bar. It was very nice and we sat by the window with a view of the landscaping; very nice! However, then ceilings were much higher and so was the noise level. I would have preferred a table in the front dining room. I also would like to try the sitting at the bar. Albeit noisy, it is what it is, if you want the bar experience! Might be worth it - will see. The food was Very Good! I wish I could give it am Excellent, but the Hot Honey Chicken Sammy was Very HOTT, not because of the Honey but because of the Cayenne Pepper - WHY? I thought he Hot Honey would be perfect. The cayenne put it over the top HOTT - NOT what was expecting. Our friends had the Fish Tacos which were huge and the Mussels which we AMAZING and they WILL be back for these items. We shared an order of WIngs which were also Awesome!! I also had a Burger which was cooked to perfection and the Wagyu beef was delicious - Highly recommend the Wagyu Burger with the upgrade to Truffle Fries which were also cooked to Perfection!!! Talk about PERFECTION - Order the Bread Pudding - I might just go back there for this dish!!! LOVE IT!!! Looking forward to getting my butt back there soon!!! UPDATE July 5th, 2025
Okay so I thought this place was good... But after returning this past Saturday this place is now AWESOME!!! The New additions to the menu are incredible ... Best Food ... Drinks are amazing ... Service again (Hayley) was Impeccable! The Salads are "over the top: Fantastic!!! This restaurant now rivals some of the best I have been to in Monmouth County. If it wasn't for the noise levels in the bar area or the room behind the bar this place would be perfect. When in these two rooms it is impossible to have a conversation with yelling over the other patrons ... It needs some noise dampening done to rectify the sound ... once that is done there is no reason to dine anywhere else. I look forward to seeing other daily specials & other new additions the new chef has planned; he...
Read moreThere is nothing wrong with the OST that can not be cured with a new chef, an updated menu, more reasonable prices, and a more attentive and caring wait staff. A wait staff that sincerely cares about getting the orders correct and pays attention to the clients.
It shouldn't be a chore for the customer to get the attention of their waiter! Customers shouldn't have to be the (air traffic controller) and continually waive off incorrect dishes that try to land on their table. People want to feel like the waiter is invested in the best meal experience for the customer. When the food arrives at the customer's table, the waiters should be there! The wrong answer is for the bus service to say to the customer, I'll contact the waiter about your missing side dishes. Only to need to search for him five minutes later. Then follow up 10 minutes later and again afterward. Side dishes that show up after the bill arrives should be an embarrassing and humiliating experience for the waiter. Any of the four star NYC restaurants would have that waiter fired at the end of his shift. A well-done steak that arrives rare and a Black & Blue steak that is neither Black or Blue is either a problem with the chef or the waiter. When a steak that is undercooked or improperly cooked arrives at the table, without the side dishes, the customer shouldn't have to go on a search for the waiter to make it right. Mistakes happen at the best restaurants. It is how the wait staff deals with it that can make the experience right for the customer. People go out to dinner for a relaxing experience. Expectations of an excellent menu selection and better food than they can prepare at home shouldn't be unreasonable. "We should have gone to Wegmans and cooked dinner at home" is not the comment you want to hear in the car, on the ride home. Owners: Instead of sending a form response to the customers who were unsatisfied or disappointed with their experience, take an honest assessment of your service, meal preparation, and consistency. A waiter that is not at the client's table when the meal is served deserves a swift kick in the backside by the owner. Don't bother responding. I will not be back, neither...
