On 3/15/25 my hungry family of 7 arrived at the Airport Diner, shortly after 7pm. While we have had good experiences here in the past, that was not the case this time. The hostess on duty was extremely rude. It started when we walked in. My overeager 6 yr old opened the incorrect door, which did have a notation to use other door. We were promptly told to close the door. I responded “yeah, that was the 6 yr old who opened it”. We received an eye roll and the response “I was just asking you to close it”. While her tone was rude, I assumed she had misinterpreted what i had said, and thought I was being argumentative. We were told to wait while a table was being cleaned. At this point, the restaurant had only a few parties, most of which were seated on the smaller side, where tables are a bit more cramped. The table prepared for us was a booth that would seat 6 at most, and cramped at that. It also had table for 2 directly across the narrow walkway, an arms length from our assigned seat. There was an older gentleman seated there. As a former waitress with many years in the food service industry, this seating assignment was a poor choice. Sitting a family of 7 (3 kids under 10) in a booth not meant for that many people, an arms length from an older gentleman dining alone, is setting up a poor experience for all diners involved. I asked the hostess if the booth could seat 7, as it did not look as though it could. We were then told it was the only spot available. I then asked if we could sit in one of the larger booths nearby. Another eye roll preceded her telling us that side was closed for the night. I stated that there was not enough room where she assigned us and one of the larger tables was needed. She again stated that the smaller booth was all that was available. I informed her that we would not be staying and started to walk out. The response we got was a scoff and a “seriously”, as the hostess stomped past us. As former waitstaff, I recognize the closing down process, and limiting the area you seat people. That being said, I have never seen nor attempted to put a large group in a spot smaller than needed, all because the nighttime closing routine. It is worth nothing that a party was seated on the “closed side”. It would not have been any inconvenience to seat us there, as it did not require any additional walking/work for the servers. We were a group of 7. That means a good sized bill and tip. Instead we were told the only place for us was a table too small for comfort. I could have accepted this and just left, without sharing this interaction. However, this hostess was so blatantly rude, I felt compelled to share the experience here. The whole interaction was watched by 3 additional servers, all of whom did not intercede. We really had enjoyed this place, but we will not return. The fact that a staff member could be so rude, and for three additional staff members to just observe it happening, is unacceptable. I would rather drive out of town to a different diner, than give this place anymore money. If you are a bigger family, be forewarned that accommodations are not always made, and your comfort/experience is not a...
Read moreI called in an order for a sandwich and fries. Told 10 minutes.Arrived, paid for it and waited and waited and waited. About 20 minutes in I asked the hostess/waitress to check my order. She went over picked up a takeout container and put it down. She did this three times , came back and said, they are working on it. Container still on shelf. Waited another bit, asked for her to check and she went over and picked up the same container and bagged it and brought it back. I opened it and fries cold and BLT also , so I asked for hot fries and told her that sat on the shelf (not under a heat lamp) for over a half hour. “Sure no problem.” She went back and I didn’t see her again. Another waitress brings out a bag minutes later and literally dropped it on the counter:”Here you go. “ I opened it just fries and NO BLT. I said I want my money back , this is ridiculous. 40 minutes total. She told me I could leave and they would refund my card later tonight. I said no , get the manager. Manager came up a few minutes later and I started to explain and the waitress rudely interrupted saying , how were they to know this was my order? It didn’t have your name on it. She continued to argue with me while the manager did the refund, I told the waitress , do you really want to do this!. At that point the manager stopped her. The waitress then was rolling her eyes back as I was trying to again speak to the manager. I told her quite loudly and as rude as she was “don’t roll your eyes at me” Totally rude staff. No concept of customer service. Poor management that she let this girl interrupt a customer rudely and did not put a stop to her. In the time I was there I watched these two ladies give attitude to quite a few people. Only one waiter asked if I was being helped in the 40 minutes I was there. They need to be sent to the Tilton Diner to learn how to do the job correctly. Tilton staff are friendly and very customer service orientated. We will drive to Tilton any time before going into this place again.I didn’t even want to do one star. This is a zero star experience.only one star to...
