My family of 7 happened across Chavolo's after leaving Mesa Verde in October, and we were looking forward to a nice lunch. Once seated, it was very apparent that our waiter, Gerardo, was not happy to be serving our table. He got incredibly irritated when my quiet 7 year-old didn't speak up loud enough to let him know what she wanted to drink. My husband answered for her, and Gerardo made a rude comment about her just needing to speak up. We were incredibly offended and considered walking out right at that moment. However, there aren't many other places to eat in Mancos, so we stayed. Gerardo stayed irritated taking the rest of our order, and when I asked if there was any plain queso, he glared at me and said "Is it on the menu?" It was but it wasn't spelled correctly, and I wasn't sure if it was something different. After taking our orders, he retreated to the other side of the restaurant and spent his time glaring at our table. It was the rudest, oddest, most uncomfortable treatment I have ever received in my life at any restaurant. We were nothing but friendly to this gentleman, and he was nothing but hostile to us the entire time. The food was decent, but if Gerardo is still working there, the owner needs to have a major discussion with him about attitude and...

Over the last year I've eaten here about five times. Every single time it's been awful. The servers are rude and like a million other reviews on here no one takes drink orders, brings menus, and it takes forever to get genuinely awful food to the table.

I've brought people to the restaurant that couldn't believe how bad it was on more than one occasion. Unfortunately, it's the only Mexican place for thirty minutes in any direction so you might end up going back for more punishment.

Last time I ordered enchiladas with beans and rice. Came out with no beans, and the waitress says "oh we're out of beans".

The enchiladas and rice were literally cold, but the enchiladas were so tough that you had to use a knife to cut them. I asked them to heat them up and it took twenty minutes to get them back. By then everyone else was done eating.

If you look at some other recent reviews you'll see the bad service and cold/dry food mentioned. I seriously wonder if they're properly handling food if it's not even being heated up, and clearly has been sitting around long enough to get dry and hard to chew/cut.

This is just a typical example of how it goes. If there was any competition in town this place would go out of business in a...

Probably the worst restaurant I’ve ever been to and I gave them two chances, one year apart. And both times was very very bad on food and service. The food was not seasoned AT ALL! The beans were raw and un seasoned. The guacamole was not made of pure avocado it had some weird cornstarch gravy to make it look like it had more quantity and thickness. Just wow. The Chicken fingers for kids , one of the chicken fingers had bones!!! My son choked and almost broke a tooth when he tried to eat it. The $20 fajita had maybe a a quarter of breast filet worth of chicken . It was all green peppers. The fajita was served with no cheese and pico, just fake guacamole and lettuce . The corn tortillas were raw! They didn’t even warm the tortillas so they would be pliable. They broke and crumbled when making a little taco. The service was very very long wait on everything. Grouchy older women. Haha geesh. I’d be grouchy too if the cooks and owners didn’t serve edible food. I can keep going on how bad it was but I won’t. I will never ever go there and waste my hard earned money...

We stopped in for a late lunch, however we were told that they were not serving lunch any more. We ordered our food, a chimichanga and chicken burrito (when the burrito can it was more like fajitas). The salsa was really warm and we asked if they had anything milder and she said we could try the salsa bar. We tried a couple things but not very good. I got some radishes off the salsa bar but they were very soft/mushy and slightly yellow. I told our waitress and she said she would take care of it (they were still there when we left). Our food was ok, either bland or spicy hot if you added the salsa. When we got our bill I noticed that my pop was $3.95 and the menu says it’s $2.50, so she said she would change it, she changed it to $2.95. I know that it is a small price but a family of eight was seated at the time we were paying and that is a lot extra they are overcharging people. Also the restaurant is called Chavolo’s but all of the branding inside says La Mesa. Would not recommend going here based on this experience.

Great service, great food, great atmosphere. We ate dinner early so it wasn't crowded at all. Chips and salsa came automatically and the chips were still warm! The salsa was very tasty and relatively mild, only a slight afterburn. My friend got a couple other salsas from the salsa bar and really went to town on the the hottest one. He had carne asada and loved it. Braver than I, ha ha. I had the pollo a la crema and the fresh mushrooms, juicy chicken, and sour cream sauce was utterly addictive! Tasty and smooth frijoles, everything was just delicious. Big portions in my opinion. Would definitely stop here again and try more dishes.

our to go order took 40 minutes, after they said it would take 15. when we finally got it food was not correct, cheese was not melted, has a side of a avocado but as you can see in the picture that is clearly not avocado. burritos tasted like metal. the wings gave me terrible food poisoning. also, other costumers were asking us how to get their attention because they had been waiting to be seated for a long time.
