Frieds Family Restaurant — Restaurant in Mandan

It does sadden me somewhat to give this place a negative review, but my last experience there is why I will likely never go back. My family and I have gone here numerous times and always had good food, good service, and excellent prices. On my last trip however it was just my wife and I. I ordered my usual cheeseburger and my wife ordered the roast beef sandwich. The menu gave no indication that it was going to be a plain Jane sandwich with no veggies. Once the food came out it was literally two pieces of wonder bread with too much mayo and a couple pieces of roast beef. All in all my wife and I could have put together this sandwich with the same ingredients from Wal-Mart for less than $2. Our server never came back to check on us so we could address the issue. Upon checkout we calmly told them about the sandwich being not up to our expectations hoping they might at least take that sandwich off the bill. They made no such accommodations nor did they offer to and the cashiers response was literally "Oh yeah we get complaints about that one alot". Then if this is a recurring issue why is this still on your menu? Needless to say I was frustrated and refused to pay anymore for the terrible meal and lack of service so left my waitress with no tip. This is one thing I never do considering I've been a worker in the food industry and I always tip about 25%. Went with German-heritage friends who didn't know about this place! She used to own and cook for a restaurant, so it was a good "test" to see what she thought. The menu was overwhelmingly WONDERFUL, prices reasonable, and when the food arrived, it was hot, delicious, good-sized portions. She was VERY impressed, and they'll be back. Fun experience for us. Stopped for lunch. Had a great meal. Friendly service. No complaints. We'll try to come here more often when passing through as the service was fast. My wife raves for their shoop noodles. Not exactly like grandma's, but grandma isn't right off the interstate ready to cook for us. I got liver and onions, which is an every few years occurrence, and is was great.
