I come here for breakfast at least once a month. Often enough I'm asked if I want the usual! And I hope you don't take offence to being called Dear, Sweety, or Honey. The gals here are fantastic and the dishes delicious, hot, and reasonably priced.
I ask for, and get, hash browns extra crispy here. It's sorta a big deal with me and my opinion of a diner rests on how right they get my potatoes. They do me GOOD! Golden brown, potato chip crispy perfection... the proper bed to lay the over-easy eggs on top so the yoke has someplace warm and friendly to run to before taking their final ride down my gullet. And you'll never have to ask for ketchup or hot sauce. They magically spring from their apron like baby kangaroos!
My usual is the French toast, 2 eggs any style, one link sausage for less than $6. I add the half order hash browns for about $2. One of my regular companions always tells the story where he and a group went to that diner with a "D" and his friend got such a small order of hash browns he complained and ordered a second helping. No complaints here. A full order will cover your plate.
I don't believe I ever ate anything here but breakfast. I rarely ate here after 12 noon. For me, I'm all about breakfast.
You need to try their patty sausage! My sons came out to visit from Las Vegas. They could not get enough. They said it's the most unusual and fresh tasting breakfast meat they ever had. During a recent three day week end, we went three times for breakfast!
Their coffee is a bit weak for my taste (I think it's a state preference). But its hot and plentiful. I've also tried their Cheese Buttons, which recently had a recipe change. I really liked the previous version. It's like a pirogi filled with maybe cheese curds, steamed and fried, served with a cheesy gravy. It's served only one day a week, and may be a Wednesday or Thursday. I swear it's flipped around some. I sometimes substitute the kielbasa for the link sausage. Very tasty! And once in a while I splurge with Biscuits, gravy, and chicken fried steak. Man, don't ever tell your doc you ate that!
Go there! But get there early. Like before 10 am on week ends. This Mandan diner is a retro floor plan based on a dining car replica-like maybe 16 tables, and 6 or 8 chairs at the counter. They fill up quick, but the service is fast and you won't wait long. Just do yourself a favor and get there like 9:30.
And don't forget to show your love! These gals work hard and do it with a smile. Here's an easy math exercise for ya... double the tax amount of your meal and round up to the buck. They'll be asking you what's your...
Read moreLet me begin by say the restaurant was very clean. However... The server needs customer service training. She did not offer any refills on coffee. When I questioned her of the appearance of Fleishkuechle she told me was fine. She was incorrect. It was burnt. I wasn't given any opportunity to have it replaced or to order a different item. She was too busy talk to friend at the front counter. Our tickets wasn't given to us. And when we went to pay I did inform her my meal was burnt and I wanted the item removed I was told she didn't have that authority. Now let me make this perfectly clear. Customer Service is the number one priority in any business. I have 25 plus years in Customer Service, and not once was I told I didn't have the "authority" to do what I could to resolve a customer complaint. Especially if it was within reason. With the country's economy, and people loosing their jobs I have been fortunate enough to afford a meal out. Without customers you don't have a business, without a business there is no job, without a job there can be no raises...
Read moreI use to love this place, and one day even get the chance to work for them. Well it happened, I got a job with them. I worked hard for them, and Elain told me numerous times what a good worker and that I was doing very well. I go on my days off, and when I come back, without any warning and the fact that I had to ask the kitchen manager what was going on, and all that was said, is that we had to let you go. The boss would not answer when I called to find out what the reasoning was. Right after they were telling me how good a worker I was. I'm never bringing any business to that company let alone telling anyone to go eat there. You don't tell a new employee there doing great, then not have the guts to tell me why I'm not working out. They need to take a hard look at themselves, they don't train you or if you ask any questions they ignore you. Which doesn't make it a nice working environment. They all talk crap about each other and to the customers. So keep up the great work. Will defenetly not be bring guest your way. What a...
