Honestly, if I could leave a 0 I would. I have been going to House of Hunan since I could remember. It’s been at least 10 years (I probably been going there longer, but I am saying at least 10 years because I know I went in high school) I feel like! The food was always amazing, but boy has that changed. Things do taste different now, way more bland and the service is always really bad. i have had to go here since the other local Chinese went out of business. So really, it’s the only take out Chinese in Marion. Recently, there portions have dramatically changed. My tofu only is a half of a take out box, and other family members only get 1/2-3/4 of a box of chicken meals. I got tired of it so I said something last time, and they apologized and told me the portion was wrong and they would give me a credit. Today, it happened again so I asked questions. I was told tonight when I picked up my food that they count only 14 pieces of tofu into the box and that is it. Mind you, 14 pieces (if there was even that many) is only half of a take out box. I understand inflation, I really do, but tofu is one of the cheapest proteins with 1 block (being about 14 oz) is only $1.59 at Kroger, which I do realize that it can be different for them but that is like the general price in store for tofu. There is no way that a block of tofu (again if I am even getting a whole block with the only 14 pieces) and a 3/4 of a container of white rice (because they do not fill the whole box anymore) should be $11.00. Yes, I do get that they need to make a profit and there is sauce and because of inflation, but still! What makes me even more upset is the owner said to my face “it’s always been this way”. As someone that has been going there for so many years, I was honestly so offended by the owner lying to my face about the portion for tofu dishes is 14 pieces of tofu. It has never been that way, maybe in the last 6 months to a year, but never before. Luckily, the manager that I was speaking to (NOT the owner) was very nice to me regarding it and said she was sorry to hear I wouldn’t be back. It is outrageous to think about what happened today, especially the owner...
Read moreHouse of Hunan used to be very good and the 'to go to' Chinese restaurant. Now tho, it's mediocre at best. Their food quality has absolutely plummeted! I've given them a few chances to correct course but I'm disappointed each time.
The kids that work here are rude. They thought it was funny to make fun of my wife because she lost her hair due to chemotherapy treatments. When I told them about it, they just shrugged and kept laughing. It's good for them they're all underage or they would have had more than me talking at them.
The food here just continues to get worse and portion sizes smaller. Their fried rice, as others have stated, is mushy and soaked in soy sauce. The Lo Mein is nasty. It's basically like eating spaghetti with a tiny bit of chicken added in. I haven't had anything from their menu that I was happy with. Just a complete waste of money!
I'll have to skip on indulging myself on Chinese food as Marion doesn't have any offerings that are worth my money. House of Hunan used to be great, and now they're nasty! It's a shame. Marion just doesn't have any restaurants that are worth...
Read moreWe've been coming to House of Hunan for over 20 years and are so glad to know that they are back open after covid. Note that they have limited hours, dinner doesn't open until 5pm now, (there's a line up to get in at 5) and I think the lunch time serving is curbside only. Call first as this may change from time to time. The dining room is large and can accommodate families of 8-10 pretty easily, but also has booths around the perimeter for the smaller more intimate dining experience. The staff is always friendly and professional, with quick service, little wait time after placing your order. My favorite dish has always been General Tso's Chicken 🐔, and although my dish tonight was a bit chewy (not tender like I'm used to) I did not send it back. I'll give them another try. I really don't think it was the chicken, but it seemed more like it was the batter surrounding the chicken, maybe it stayed in the wok a little too long? Don't be afraid to go and give them a chance to make a good returning...
