First of all, let me say that I have eaten a LOT of BBQ in San Antonio, Kansas City, and Memphis, and the three should not be compared directly. Texas BBQ is usually heavy smoked and served with a spicy sauce on the side. KC BBQ is lightly smoked with a sweet sauce. And Memphis BBQ is mostly just grilled with minimum smoke and a mustard/ vinegar based sauce. With that said let's get to Tops BBQ. It's good Memphis style BBQ. And although all BBQ is expensive, theirs was a very good price for a gut-busting amount of food (meat). About 18 dollars for the sampler plate. We ate in, which I highly recommend even though the place is well used. That way you get all three choices of sauce, which is a wonderful collection of flavors. The sweet is right out of KC. The hot is straight from San Antonio. And the medium is the perfect Memphis sauce. With these sauces and all that meat, it was a fun meal. And to keep this review a little shorter, here's some quick notes on the rest: I understand BBQ must be cooked well before serving, and keeping it hot is tough without over cooking, but it could have been served a little warmer. The beans were good, and with a little doctoring from the sauces, they became very good. The cole slaw tasted like potato salad only with cabbage. Kinda odd. The toasted buns were a nice touch instead of cold bread. The service was friendly and fast.
Overall, I would recommend eating in at Tops. You may or may not love it, but to me it will be a go to place next time I...
Read moreThis place was bad.. took us 50 minutes to get a barbecue sandwich with baked beans and fries, then we had to send the beans back because they were cold. I had to go outside and get two of the workers, who were sitting in a gray Camry or Altima smoking cigarettes. A older short white lady and a middle aged white dude with black hair (I say this to let the owner know I'm not lying on these folks cause I know he knows who drives what car and what his employees look like) to come in and help the young man who they left in there alone to get the orders out and the young man was in the restroom. I mean all 4 workers just disappeared at the same time. I think the dread lock dude was hiding in the back. So after we get our food, we sent the beans back cause they were cold then I'm looking in the back, the guy that was outside smoking comes walking around the corner with like a whole shoulder of pork with no gloves, hair net or apron on. I mean just bare handed with that filthy shirt he had on. If you were in Tops on Friday January 25, 2019, you know this is all true. One guy said this place is a joke and it's not like this in the day time and another man just walked out. I used to like this place but never will I go there again. I wish there was a no star rating cause that's what they really deserve..... Tops ownership you need to get your night staff on point...
Read moreI had my son pick up two half slab rib plates shortly before we left for work. They were so overcooked they were inedible, almost leather. I called the manager to complain hoping for a quick and simple resolution though I knew I would not have time to eat before work. We had already thrown our food away, but the manager stated that a receipt was not enough for a refund or replacement, that I had to bring back the food with the receipt. Now I understand that some people may take advantage of the situation and make this a habit, but I am pretty sure the manager would recognize repeaters or could use some sort of documentation rather that expecting me to bring food from the trash can up there, wasting my time and gas. Not to mention that I would not have time to for a few days. This is the only time I have complained although something similar has happened a handful of times. I expected customer service that would include at least an apology and a gift certificate waiting for me at a time convenient for me, or even mailed to me. Apparently Topps does not have a customer service policy. McDonald’s has better customer service than this! You're losing a regular customer...
