The Polar Parlor Pizza & Ice Cream — Restaurant in Markey Township

We love this place!! Open year round! The food and ice cream options are many. Recommended items - Pizza, classic bread sticks, various dole whip flavors (the watermelon is more candy flavor than actual juice flavor), sundae's, polar vortex ("blizzard"), churro bites, ice cream nachos, hand dipped and soft serve cones, kids cute novelty options like bear decorated cones and sand pail sundaes. Too numerous to list everything and still many things we want to try! Typical outside walk up style ice cream/food venue. The staff are friendly, the order line moves quickly. The pick up window for order ahead food and for ice cream are separate. They have a small outside, covered seating area. The parking lot overflows on weekends and holidays but people use the lot of the next door business (after they are closed; remember to be respectful of their property too please) Couple of minuses - the "pick up line" for ice cream is a mess at busy times. While they try very hard to go in number order and work as quickly as possible sometimes things come out before or after the "next in line". There really is no line just a jumble of people waiting and watching for their ordered items. This jumble by nature of size spills over into the coveted parking area. Also, it would be easier if they announced an order number over a speaker instead of having to try to figure out if an item is yours or someone else's. Be prepared to wait at least 20+ minutes for your order during busy times. Also call ahead orders during busy times are not always accurate estimates on ready for pick up times. It was actually pretty good! I was pleasantly surprised. Thought for sure it would be mediocre at best. No, it was hot, fresh, and the supreme was loaded with toppings. Since it was loaded with toppings, you'd expect it might be soggy or undercooked... nope. It was great. Service was friendly, if slightly annoyed, but certainly not rude. I can understand being busy and they hid the frustration well at least. The main reason I went here was because they serve Guernsey ice cream and it is wonderful. Some of the best butter pecan ice cream I've ever eaten so I was happy to see they serve it here. No indoor seating, only some outdoor tables, but not very many so plan accordingly. Knew I had to come here since they serve Dole Whip! Plenty of parking right in front, walk up and order at the left window. They have a fairly large food menu including pizza, ice cream, soft serve, funnel cakes, and more. We ordered a small Dole whip and a single scoop of mocha “hand-dipped” ice cream, which just means hand-scooped. The Dole Whip was the perfect proper creamy consistency (even though I’m pretty sure it’s vegan) and I was very impressed by the quality of the ice cream. It had a great coffee flavor with just enough chocolate to make it interesting.

Didn’t try any food but saw many people ordering and one lady got three pies to go, so must be good.
