This bakery has been in town for decades and has by now become decidedly tired and run-down. There is no visible menu with a listing of prices or options for pastries, cakes or lunch sandwiches which can lead to surprises at check-out and confusion when ordering. The ingredients they use are lower quality and the breakfast sandwiches are a rip-off, the service areas are filthy and look like they haven't seen a thorough cleaning in months, if not years.
Their water supply is also high in sulfur (as is a problem in some parts of Marlborough). Once when I asked for a glass of tap-water it tasted like foul hard boiled eggs. This is the same water they make coffee and bake with.
The last time I was there, I saw multiple flies buzzing around, and one landed on the rows of Danish. I alerted an employee and he looked at me like he wanted to do something about it but obviously couldn't. The owner is a frightful person who can occasionally be heard shouting at employees, and who doesn't seem to care about proper business or sanitary practices. The kitchen staff also doesn't wear gloves or hats and once I actually found a hair in my ice coffee. Disgusting. That was the last time I'll ever eat there.
This place is now mostly popular among "old-timers," townies, and people who work in the immediate vicinity. I can't imagine many of the towns more affluent clientele patronizing this place, which is too bad because it would be nice to have a better choice for breakfast other than Dunkin Donuts in Marlborough.
The only redeeming factor is that the cakes, breads and deserts are well made by professional bakers and are actually quite good. An example of a business with a fairly good product but a broken process. I would only recommend this business for their pre-prepared foods and to someone wanting to order a cake or catering, otherwise, you might be better off...
Read moreFirst of all, let me say that I have stopped by Marlborough Bakery many times and had baked goods that were some of the best I've had anywhere, same for breakfast sandwiches, delicious. This mornings experience stood alone and it was not good. The waitress was friendly and very good at her job. I ordered The Farmers Breakfast, 3 eggs over easy,3 bacon,3 sausage, home fries well done with onions please, and rye toast. What I got was unbelievable, 2 eggs closer to raw than overeasy, both with broken yokes, good bacon, 3 sausage that were barley cooked (still pink inside), homefries that I had asked for well done were more like boiled potatoes and cold when served, bland and very disappointing topped off by rye toast that was saturated with butter, now I love butter but my toast was soggy and dripping. I will say that if I had made this breakfast for myself at home, I would have taken one bite and tossed it in the garbage and...
Read moreCustom ordered a cake on Monday. I showed them the picture on the left of the cookies as a reference as I wanted the theme and color scheme to be the same but for a 1st birthday. Girl at the counter told me about how good it was going to look and told me about what the special qualities the baker was going to add. Friday morning I picked it up and it looked like this. Not even close to what I was told. We also ordered a matching cupcake that was supposed to be decorated nicely but all it had was pink icing.. The words are bleeding and the butterflies are printed on edible paper straight from the reference photo even though I said specifically I did not want them printed I wanted them hand designer. If they could not do that then I would’ve rather them not take the commission. Very disappointed as I did not have enough time to get her a professionally decorated cake for her...
