At Joyous Chinese Food Restaurant in Marshall, Missouri, the culinary experience transcends expectations, bringing together freshness, flavor, and value under one roof. The highlight of this visit is a freshly prepared plate of Chicken Kung Pao, captured beautifully in the photo—a vibrant and enticing medley of textures and colors.

This dish delights the senses with its rich aroma of mild spices wafting through the air, a gentle yet inviting promise of flavor to come. The tender chicken, seared to perfection, is the star of the dish, retaining its juiciness while absorbing the nuances of the sauce—a harmonious blend of savory, slightly sweet, and mildly spicy notes. Each bite bursts with freshness, as the chicken is complemented by an array of crisp vegetables: the crunch of celery, the sweetness of carrots, and the snappy bite of baby corn, all cooked to an impeccable balance of tenderness and texture.

Adding depth to this culinary masterpiece are the roasted peanuts, bringing a delightful nuttiness and a subtle crunch that elevates the dish. The sauce ties everything together, a luscious glaze that coats each ingredient, ensuring a flavor-packed bite every time.

The buffet itself is a testament to value and variety, offering an array of Chinese-American classics alongside this freshly crafted dish. The attentive and welcoming service only enhances the dining experience, making each visit a joyous occasion. In a town like Marshall, the opportunity to indulge in such a high-quality, all-you-can-eat Chinese buffet—with the option to savor a freshly prepared gem like this Chicken Kung Pao—feels nothing short of extraordinary.

We're talking kung pao chicken that danced on my tongue, fresh off the wok with just the right kick. And then there was the legendary crappie: a Truman Lake beauty, hand-prepped by owner Tony himself (thanks, Dad, for snagging that beauty in Warsaw!). Each bite was a crispy, flaky ode to Missouri bounty.

Tony and his wife welcomed us like family, weaving stories between scallion pancakes and cups of steaming coffee. Their passion for food shines through every dish – it's not just a buffet, it's an experience. And let me tell you, it's an experience I've chased in all my global wanderings, never quite finding its equal. ✨

So, if you're ever braving a Missouri blizzard (or just a regular Tuesday ), head to Joyous Chinese. Forget run-of-the-mill buffets – this is Chinese-American cuisine elevated, with a side of genuine Midwestern hospitality. You'll leave with a full belly, a warm heart, and a newfound appreciation for a Marshall treasure. #JoyousEats #CrappieKing #LocalLegends

Updated August 9, 2023 - we had a family gathering after work at the farm - my brother his two amazing kids, and my father - Tony and his wife and son were attentive and gifted us with a super tasty VietNam coffee from the grocery shop there where locals were also buying goods to take home with them, while other customers were getting take out boxes from the incredible All you can Eat chinese food buffet. We had a wonderful peanut chicken spicy kung poa fresh and hot from the kitchen. My nieces loved 2nd trips to the desert bar for cakes and fresh watermelon and canteloupe. I've never seen or had such attentive and geniune friendly service anywhere in the world in all my life. It made it a very special day - that much more amazing. ⚠️YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED ⚠️ Was driving though marshall and decided to stop for chinese. Wish we would have read the reviews before eating here! Food looked a bit sketchy but we gave the benefit of the doubt and grabbed a plate of food. That was our mistake we should have just left! 3 bites in my daughter and I decided this is a HUGE NO! The food was cold, DISGUSTING and some even tasted rotten! We politely (as politely as one can be when giving negative feedback) told the (I'm assuming owners) about our experience and expressed health concern about their food they are serving and how we didn't even eat a quarter of a plate of food and why. Owners were very defensive and didn't even try to apologize or anything. (Note we were not looking for a free meal however the food was so bad they needed to know). We paid and left. By the time we got to our car both my daughter and I were vomiting. We both have had diarrhea for 2 days with sever stomach cramps! Food poisoning? Probably if I had to guess. If you are like us and just driving through, save yourself and DO NOT eat here!!!! ⚠️YOU HAVE...

If I could leave 0 stars I would. We are not from the area.. The prices are very affordable but the food is very nasty and hardly anything available for a buffet. The food is also not to the right temperatures it was cold.Is upon leaving, I told the cashier that I apologize but the food is Terrible and this place is dirty. I asked if we were having to pay the full price or partial price being as though we didn't touch our food.. So the owner of the establishment was very rude and said get out get out I don't want to see you again.. I laughed and said I highly doubt you'll ever see me again this place is gross and you're rude So she just kept saying get out get out get out. What a joke of a place SMH I highly recommend the health department be called...

Unsure what all the bad reviews are about. Probably just petty Karen's. It's your average Chinese buffet. I visit 40-50 a year. Nothing special. Not lacking. Small variety but good food. Left me alone to decide my health precautions. Good price though.
