We are on a cross-country trip from the east coast back home to California. Our overnight stop tonight is in the charming Texas city of Marshall, home of the Wonderland of Lights. After settling into our hotel room, we checked Google Maps for a good place to eat. Pic-N-Pay Texas Style Cookin stood out above the rest so we quickly left the hotel and headed for the restaurant. We arrived at the end of their business day and were going to take our food to go, but the people running the place (I assume they were the owners) welcomed us like we were old friends and persuaded us, by their friendliness, to stay and dine in their restaurant. My wife ordered a chili dog with onion rings and I ordered a bacon cheeseburger with fries. While we waited for our order to arrive at our table, we looked around at the interesting memorabilia decorating the walls and ceiling. Hanging from the ceiling were football helmets from various colleges, and the walls were covered with vintage sports pictures and keepsakes. Within a few minutes the nice lady who took our order came with our meal and introduced herself as Debbie. She made sure we had everything we needed (ketchup for the fries, ranch dressing for the onion rings, etc.) and checked back with us throughout our meal to make sure all was well. It was! My wife reported that her chili cheese dog was delicious (she loves chili!) and the onion rings were great as well - sweet and satisfying. My burger was a thing of beauty. The thick, juicy beef patty was so large that it protruded past the bun by about an inch. The lettuce on the burger was fresh and crisp and the tomato was ripe and flavorful. The bacon was thick-sliced and crispy, just the way I like it. I only got the single burger and I did well to finish it. It's impressively big! But it's not just pretty to look at, it tastes great, too. Unlike corporate-owned fast food mass produced burgers, this burger was crafted with care. Halfway through our meal the owner/cook came out to chat with us for a few minutes to get to know us. These people obviously care about their business, care about the food they serve, and care about people. My advice to those who want to try this place is to come earlier in the day than we did for the best selection. Their signature entrees may run out toward the end of the day. But if their entree selection is low, you can't go wrong with their bacon cheeseburger hot off the grill. Take my word for it! Wonderful place -...

Came here while in town for work. Was recommended after someone raved about their food. Decided to give it a try and was not disappointed. It was the most polite and THE most friendly place I encountered while in town. The couple who owns and operates the restaurant are super sweet. They knew everyone by name and greeted incoming customers as such.

The decor is extremely interesting to look at and the food is the best. I always got the chicken fried steak breakfast sandwich with gravy and it quickly became my favorite for breakfast.

Other reviewers arnt over exaggerating when they say the burgers are huge and delicious. Come prepared with a completely empty stomach if you plan on ordering one of those.

There was an incident where I left my credit card at the restaurant and wasnt able to retrieve it until a couple days later, but they called the hotel I was staying at to try and return it to me. They even kept it safe at the register for when I returned. I've never had that level of customer service before.

Unfortunately I will not be returning to Marshall, TX and the one thing I will miss from the town will be this place.

I highly recommend stopping here for a meal. You wont be disappointed.

My name is David. My wife Charlotte and I are traveling merry go round pony painters , lol yes that's what I said. We are blessed to be able to earn a living, traveling around the country bringing old merry go rounds back to there magical glory , which brings me to this review. We get to go to fantastic places, meet awesome people and eat unbelievable food. As always we make it point to ask the local people where the good places are to eat and this place came up over and over again. We went there for lunch one afternoon and let me tell you , I have never been to a better, Cooler or friendlyer place anywhere. The food is amazing !!!!! The atmosphere is is a cross between a club house from our youth , a man cave, and a museum of cool things . The people there are so cool and have become friends. I can't say enough good things about this place , it's a must stop if your...

Was in town for a project and was referred to this place by the local guys. Stopped in, the place is very quaint and takes you back in time. The owners there were very warm and inviting. I ordered the special, chicken spaghetti and I thought my mom had cooked it. Real comfort food. I'm very happy that I have stopped in and looking forward to my next trip out there to try something else on the menu, like those pork chops they had up there or the sausage links. Very nice place.

We stopped in route to Dallas. It’s a small place and they have an assortment of food. I had a pulled pork sandwich and my husband had a fully loaded burger with bacon etc and a side of onion rings. It was all so tasty! As people were coming in they were known by name so it’s even a place the locals will choose! Prices were also reasonable.
