Ok, so this review for this restaurant is a true treat because, I traveled all the way from Brunswick, MD to try this place. I found out about it because, I follow a "foodie" / restaurant reviewer named, "The Real Food Stalker" on Instagram, and as soon as, I saw his crab cake sandwich and heard him say, "folks, you've gotta give this place a try," I knew that I had to check it out.
First and foremost, it's located in a neighborhood shopping center/strip. So, parking spots can fill up quick, but I noticed there were a lot of people picking up takeout orders. So you will likely be able to get a spot. Now, this place was bustling when we arrived there was a line for takeout, and there was a 20-25 minute wait to dine in. We opted to dine in. The crowd was steadily moving in and out, so it legit was a 20-25 minute. The hostess was super friendly, and really on point with keeping up with the influx of customers wanting to put to their name on the list to get the next table. The kitchen staff was working together like a "well-oiled machine," and it was nice to be able to see them cooking while we waited for our table.
Once we were seated at our table, we were greeted by Ashley, our waitress. Super nice and she was on point too! I read another review about the drink fountain, and having to fix your own drink. It's pretty busy in there, so I guess it allows for the waitstaff to focus on getting your meal, and you can get your drink yourself. It wasn't too bad though. The garlic bread was soooooo good! It was fresh soft bread with super garlicky butter...mmm mmm mmm! I should've had my crab sandwich bread buttered and toasted with that garlic butter. The food was so good! I thoroughly enjoyed my 8 oz. crab cake sandwich. The photos don't do this sandwich justice! That sandwich is huge! I couldn't even eat it all. I brought half of it home! With that said, it was everything that I was expecting, and more! The fries were hot and fresh! I'm from the south and back home we make and eat our coleslaw with a "sweet" taste. I was so happy because, their coleslaw reminded me of home, specifically, it reminded me of my Mom’s coleslaw and “Libby Hill’s” coleslaw. IYKYK! The tarter sauce was also very good. I didn't really care for the cocktail sauce because, it had a weird taste/flavor. I think some weird alcohol was added, maybe not, I just didn't really like it. The only suggestion my hubby and I had was that we wished the crab cakes would've had Old Bay seasoning on it, and have some Old Bay Hot Sauce. Being in MD, you’ve gotta have the Old Bay on tap and queued up! Finally, I even ordered the chocolate cake…to go because, I was so stuffed! Overall everything was delicious, it was worth making the trek out here, and the restaurant staff was friendly, helpful, and efficient! I would definitely return, and I'd highly recommend that if you're in the area that you "give this place a try!"...
Read moreSo, 2 weeks ago on a Thursday night approx. 6:45, I called in my p/up order 15 min. prior to arrival heading home from work on I95. They informed me it would be ready in about 15 min. Great and should be ready when I get there of shortly after. I came into the p/up area about 7:05 which only 2 other customers were in the lobby. A gentleman was at the counter picking up his Pizza order, paid and when the Pizza was brought to the counter he looked at the Pizza to make sure it was made correctly. It was not made correctly. The cashier spoke to the cust. and went to get the Mgr. who then Nico came over and asked what the problem was. The customer told Nico how the Pizza is not what he asked for and it was made wrong. Nico said sorry we can give you 50% off and grab a dessert out of the case on the house. The cust. said that was not necessary. The cust. said no thanks for the dessert Nico gave the cust. some money back and took this Pizza home. Nico then said see me next time you come in make sure you see me and Ill take care of you?? I went to the counter and asked if my order was ready which it still was not ready. I was now the only cust, in the lobby at this time. I then noticed the cashier walked back to speak to Nico (maybe to check on my order status) by the deli prep counter. Nico started speaking to the cashier (as it looked) very abruptly and pointing his finger. Wow Really Infront of the pick up counter about 10 feet away. The cashier came back with a disturbed look and watery eyes. I did not ask just waiting for my p/up order which was finally ready at approx. 7:25. By this time I was starving looking forward to eating my cheeseburger sub with some additives. Got home, sat down at my table and unrolled the sub. WOW over cooked burgers, Really not made to what I had asked for. Took a couple bites and in the trash. I usually do not post but felt when situations happen multiple times in a short period of time, people need to be aware. I am not also looking for any replacements just want what I pay for and not watching a Manager speak to an employee in the public area where staff, customers can over here and see. Sorry, Ill try other carry out restaurants...
Read moreI found this place on Google maps while in search of a great crab cake. We were in town for a sporting event.
I had takeout so I can't speak to the dine in experience but I did note that they have a nice outside dining area and I could see the entrance to the dining area.(They also have some chips and other items for sale and also do catering).
I can say I was thrilled with the timing, friendliness, and taste. Timing - they had my order ready a little sooner than the promised 20 minutes. The Friendliness - the person who took my phone order was nice AND patient. When I arrived for pick up I was acknowledged and helped right away. The TASTE of the food! I had the 8oz crab cake platter (crab cake, fries, slaw) and it did not disappoint. The crab cake was HUGE - probably the largest I've had at a restaurant. It was perfectly cooked, moist, well seasoned, and had very little filler. Absolutely delicious. The included lemon wedge and excellent tartar type sauce were a good addition but the crab cake could stand alone easily. I liked how moist the tartar sauce was and the ratio of pickles to sauce was high which I enjoyed.
The fries were a very large portion of the meal and they had a good texture, shape, and size. They varied in crispiness and were mostly golden brown with a few well done, harder smaller bits - not burned, just dark. Probably even better eaten hot at the restaurant without waiting for the drive.
The coleslaw was pretty standard. It had a nice tang, no carrots, no pepper that I could taste, but could have been larger - it was probably 2oz or 3oz. I'm a person who really likes coleslaw so others might be perfectly content with that size. They also put in a bonus little garlic bread.
Overall I am really happy with this meal. We will probably have it for dinner again tomorrow but just the crab cakes as they are worth the price and amazing.
I definitely recommend Box Hill Pizzeria...
