Chopstix Gourmet sushi bar — Restaurant in Maryland

I can't stop coming back to this place ever since I discovered it a few years ago. While I've been to quite a few different sushi spots, I keep coming back to compare and find Chopstix to have the widest variety of and tastiest sushi options. Plus as a big bonus, staff has always been speedy with orders and polite whenever I visited.

I always start with their special 'Sweet Dream' roll, a combination of tempura shrimp, coconut flakes, mango, and strawberry sauce. It's essentially a dessert roll with its sweet notes. I won't lie - this sushi roll is one of the reasons I keep coming back - so, so good!!

Today I decided to try their new special 'Mermaid' roll. I'm not sure if it's seasonal/temporary or not as it was written on a whiteboard, but it was really great. There was just a hint of heat, and while I don't normally like spicy sushi, the spicy sauce was subtle enough and actually mixed well with the rest of the sauce (looked like 2 suaces were used and mixed together). Other ingredients like eel and avocado rounded out the taste, too, to create what I found to be delicious.

Lastly I ordered a bowl of edamame - the bowl was huge! Definitely will get your money's worth if you enjoy simple, fresh edamame.

My partner got his usual favorites, salmon sushi and BBQ beef skewers. I've shared the skewers in the past with him - both the meat itself and bbq sauce were great. We've never had any problems with eating raw sushi at this place.

Food is REALLY good here. Best sushi and chinese food in the Perry Hall / White Marsh area BUT customer service is HORRIBLE here....and I only do carry out because I live 5 mins walking distance from there. Last visit....they would not substitute ANYTHING in place of the soup with the Dinner Deals. EVERY SINGLE chinese place I have ever ordered from ALWAYS let's us substitute an egg roll.for.the soup. The lady took order was nasty and rushing me off the phone. The time before that I called in and ordered sushi and chinede....my daughter and I walked over to pick it up. We get home and they forgot our sushi. I walked back over there and told them I want my $ back for the inconvenience. He told me it was sitting in a bag next to my other bag which was a LIE....I saw it sitting at the opposite end of the table. He then gave me my $ back but told me I can't have the food since he refunded me. Someone else came over and told him to give it to me because he heard me arguing with him. The food is really good here but due to the horrible service here I will now go to China Taste on Belair Rd instead.....they have AMAZING food (chinese & sushi) AND great Customer service!!!!!! It was hard to decide the number of stars which fluctuate wildly based on dining in or carry away. I'd give 4-5 stars for dining in. Every meal is attractively prepared, the service is very good and the restaurant has a fun atmosphere. Portions were ample enough to still take enough home for another meal. As for the take out - this is where I have issues. Egg foo young with no sauce; eggs rolls that literally dripped grease; General Tso's Chicken with raw broccoli pieces that outnumbered the chicken pieces were a few experienced. Today was no different: Singapore Rice Noodles with three shrimps, two small pieces of chicken, two slivers of pork along with a few scattered pieces of onion and an extremely dried out pile of rice noodles was awful. Add to that the poor excuse that was supposed to be shrimp toast! It needed something - like taste. It had none! It was a portion of shrimp on toast quarters with no seasoning at all! At least throw in some dreaded MSG to liven it up! The difference between a good restaurant and one just slinging food is when a line cook is ready to serve something and doesn't care if it's burnt. Chopstix is slinging carry out food. Take...
