I used to go to Cluck-U when I was on the road for work. A co-worker introduced me to it in 2010, and over the next 5 years I would periodically stop and grab lunch whenever I was in the area of one. There was a location in Annapolis, and one I think in Edgwater at a BP gas station. But both those places have been closed for a long time. The other place that I would go was this location, in Odenton, across from Forte Meade. So recently I got a craving, and I decided to make the trip. Now I've probably only been to Cluck-U maybe 15-20 times. It's probably been 10 years since I've been there. And I always get the same thing: the boneless buffalo wings (which are really just chicken tenders with sauce) and an order of honey bees. And let me tell you, they were just as good this time as the last time that I had them. I just really like the way that they prepare the chicken, the size of the chicken, how long they cook the chicken, the flavor of the sauce (I prefer the mild barbeque), and the quantity of the sauce that they give you. I'm somewhat of a chicken/wing/bbq critic, and these pass the test. I just can't get enough of them. And the honey bees were just as good and fresh as I remember them. The food was an A+.
Now the ambience of the store isn't going to win any awards. It is what it is. It looks just like it did the last time I was there a decade ago, except the corny Cluck-U artwork that's on the walls has faded due to time. And frankly the overall smell of the store isn't the best. And the TV wasn't even on. And nobody was inside eating. But I didn't go there to eat inside, or watch TV, or smells the smells. I went there to get the chicken that I remember being so good, and it was still good, and I'm glad...
Read moreA retro Chicken place like no other! I love the Cluck-U-Chicken brand! When you go in you immediately see the brand everywhere in the most fun ways! There's a robocop chicken, a Spider-Man chicken and other fun stuff all over the dining area and in the bathroom. The brand repeatedly says the same thing, the chicken is addictive and it's not a lie. I have to drive an hour to get to this restaurant and I do so about twice a year (sometimes a little more if I'm in the area) and it's always worth it. It's really good I'm not living closer to Cluck-U-Chicken because I'd honestly be going like maybe once a week. The chicken is really that good!! I love wings in general and these are perfectly breaded, perfectly sauced, perfectly seasoned, perfectly fried and perfectly sized! These wings are big and filling! I love supporting this business because their food is quality all around always! Everything on this menu is fire and everyone in this restaurant cares immensely about the food and the people ordering that food. If I could suggest one thing to improve on, I think the decor and merchandise needs to be updated! Don't get me wrong, like I said everything in the restaurant adds to the retro atmosphere and the brand but it has not been updated in a minute! Please support this awesome business and see how good this chicken is so that the brand can keep going and can continue to...
Read moreOrdered a 3 piece fried thigh, mashed potatoes, fries to share, chicken tenders, mac & cheese and a side of honey bees.
Fried thighs were the worst fried chicken I've had in my life, and I've been all over the Country and that says something. Minimal meat, was dry and looked like they only give you a half thigh. Absolute scam for 3.99 a thigh. Have previously had their fried breasts and they were just as bad.
Mashed potatoes were microwave meal quality, and you could tell they had been put in the little container hours ago as the rim was about the consistency of day old mashed potatoes you were too lazy to wash out of the bowl.
Fries were fine, thick cut and the old bay was spread well; zero complaints there, a fry is a fry and they know how to fry.
Tendies were pretty good, no issues there. Not Canes, but they'll do fine. Worth the price, a lot of meat and less fried bits.
Mac and Cheese was as quality as the mashed potatoes, tasted like Stoffers but worse.
Honey Bees - Coming from New Orleans and liking beignets, these little monsters are amazing. Great job, this is the shining moment of the meal.
Overall, for the cost of this meal which was close to 40 bucks.. hard pass. This quality of food, amazed who they're still...
