The food here is INSANELY GOOD and if you haven't tried it, you're missing out. I've had everything on the menu, multiple time's and I've never been let down. My favorites are the crab cakes, smothered pork chops and the meatloaf. The half and half is amazing and the Apple Pie is to die for. I'm usually not a fan of apple pie, but WOW... I have to order it every time I come here. Special shout-out to the mac, the mash and the yams. I knocked off a couple stars for a couple of reason's. The first star is for the price of everything, which started off high and continues to increase by the dollar. The second reason is a personal one and I think anyone would feel some type of way about it in our position. My partner and I were celebrating a special day and we decided to eat at Granny's. We spent a lot of money here and purchased a variety of things. Keep in mind, we are far from rich but decided to pamper ourselves. I even mentioned the occasion to staff out of excitement. My partner purchased one of their tea and finished it while waiting for the food. On the way out the door, he asked for a refill and they said no... but they didn't just say no like normal people, they had to be rude about it. Like they were annoyed that my partner had the audacity to ask for a free refill after spending hundreds of dollars there. I feel like discretion should have definitely been used here. We held this place in such high regards and I walked away feeling we were not valued in the least. You have two people celebrating a special day, who basically sacrificed an arm, two legs and a liver for food and you refuse a drink rudly. Why? Even if free refills isn't a thing here, discretion should have been used. Never mind discretion, the attitude was weird and unnecessary. A customer based establishment would have used discretion and probably go a step further to do something special for the occasion as a courtesy. I guess when the food is this good and the customer base is this big, places like this forget the value and the importance of showing appreciation to the people who support their business. If the owner (very cool guy) ever comes across my very long rent, I hope he takes away one...
Read moreBefore I went there I called and I asked, "is this placed owned by Chinese people"? I love all people and all races but I do, and I mean it, I refuse to buy soul food from just any company. So, this business is black owned and the service was good. Our server was Jasmine - ask for her. ( I don't know her but she said you can ask for servers if you wish so I would recommend her) Her service was good. She took our order and she wasn't too much or lacking she was just a good waitress. I asked what was more fresh, the tilapia or catfish?? our waitress suggested the catfish and I'm so happy I ordered it. All the food, including the fish was HOT!!!. For the fish to be hot that means it's prepared when you order it as opposed to sitting under a light. This place is so good I'm thinking about taking my grandmother and my great-uncle to dinner. The waitress said Sundays are the busy time so I would most likely stay away on a Sunday - (Even the best restaurant, they can be overwhelmed when there are too many people) but we went on a Monday night (10/1/18) and I would highly recommend this place. The restrooms are tucked away from the main dining area which is a plus. They have a full bar. The "to-go counter", that too is away from the main dining area which is a plus. In case you are wondering, no I don't know these people and I've never been there but I do enjoy eating out and if there was something wrong, I would definitely post it. This was my first visit to Granny's. Honestly, I had to give them 5 stars because it was just really good. Even the taste - the food had flavor. It wasn't bland or too salty. West Baltimore / West Baltimore County is not my side of town but it was worth the drive. If you are looking for some genuine food, food with flavor, good service and reasonable prices than I would highly recommend this place. OOOhhhh.....and, all the waiters and waitresses, they all looked clean. No one had bad uniforms where their clothing was stained , none of that foolishness - really, this place is worth the visit and worth the...
Read moreWow. Are you actually kidding me with this place? What an incredible experience. Okay, let me back up.
At first I thought maybe the prices listed on their site were a bit too much. But when our waiter - awesome dude named Derek - brought us endless cornbread (some of the best I've EVER had), I knew we made the right choice coming here.
And then he brought the entrees. Good. Lord.
So much food. I could barely finish half of it. And so unbelievably delicious.
We got the chicken and waffles (for our first trip here, how could we not?), and it was easily the best C&W I've ever had. Not that I'm an expert on the poultry-breakfast combos in general, but I know my waffles and wings individually, and individually they were some of the tastiest I've eaten.
The chicken was exceptional. Breaded and fried to perfection, not over spiced (since its purpose was to be eaten with the waffle), but still delicious. Served with hot sauce, an absolute requirement.
Then that waffle. Dude, that waffle. Fluffy, buttery, and delicate. I could literally taste the love.
Our sides included sweet potato fries, dusted with cinnamon and sugar. Once again, top-tier quality. Plus, a cauldron-sized portion of mac and cheese. And this mac n cheese was at least 60% just melted cheese. If that was the main entree with nothing else, I still wouldn't have been able to finish it.
And the staff at the restaurant just oozed class and friendliness. Derek, our waiter, was especially great. He even hooked us up with some take-home cornbread, which I super appreciated.
Man. I could go on and on. I'm not even from around here, but you better believe I'll be coming back at the earliest opportunity. But for now, I need a hard nap. I've got the itis something fierce.
This place is a legit 5/5.
PS: Fantastic choice of jazz music and decor. That didn't...
