I'm addicted to this coffee!
The dine-in experience is OK (it's drip coffee which is good but won't blow you away, they have a solid assortment of milk alternatives, and most importantly they have an absurd amount of coffee flavors); what sets this place apart is that they roast their own beans and this is a massive game changer for your coffee at home.
They have a huge amount of beans from many different places, and they flavor some of them through aeration so it doesn't sweeten the coffee like syrups do.
I am so happy to have found a good local roaster, using freshly roasted beans (the beans you buy here are usually a week old at most according to their staff), and grinding them before you brew them makes a massive difference in the coffee you make at home regardless of your brewing method.
I come to Mad City about every two weeks now to get a fresh bag, I like light roasts and I mostly drink decaf so I recommend their Summatra Decaf, although I can never help myself and always walk away with something flavored (Chocolate Raspberry is divine), I also appreciate that they offer flavored decaf too!
The atmosphere is OK, it feels outdated and a bit of a dive which frankly gives it charm. It's clean, which is the important part, and the staff is really nice. I do wish I could tip when I pay with Apple Pay because I never carry cash and I always like to tip.
All in all, an absolute gem of a local roaster; the dine-in experience is good, but the real treasure here is the freshly roasted whole beans you can take home! (They also have $0.99 freshly baked cookies, which my kids LOVE, and their biscotti is...
Read moreIt seems to be popular for some reason. I’ve been here a few times but hadn’t been there in a while. I have learned not to order the sandwiches. They’re just regular packaged deli meat on plain bread. Nothing special. The coffee is good. The pastries are not. I don’t know where they order them from. Decided to give it a try again. Ordered a toasted bagel with cream cheese and regular coffee. The cashier was nice. Got my coffee and the carafe with creamer was empty. Since the cashier had a long line, I said excuse to the girl that was making one espresso. No answer. Said it again. She turned around with an annoyed look. Told her there was no creamer, which by the way has happened before, and she gave me attitude and told me to tell the cashier. I wasn’t asking her to refill it. I was just telling her it was empty thinking she would let someone know. Another young lady came over with an annoyed look on her face, put out her hand for me to hand her the carafe and took it without a word. No idea where customer service has gone. I didn’t come at anyone with an attitude. Work gets busy. That’s how it is. Not your customers fault. Oh, and my bagel was barely toasted and cold but my coffee was good. Customers will still keep coming so staff moods...
Read moreWe were trying to order at the register and there were two employees talking very loudly behind the cashier to the point that she could not hear my order. She got very flustered and had to ask me to repeat my order three or four times. My boyfriend and I ordered two coffees and two sandwiches. It was a little over $20. We went and sat down and had our food in about 10 minutes, but no drink. We ate the sandwiches which were okay but not great. We sat and talked for a while. Still no drinks. About 45 minutes after we ordered, we noticed no one was making drinks anymore. My boyfriend asked an employee if they were still making our drinks. The employee was very kind and apologized profusely. He upsized our drinks at no charge. However, the drinks were also not very good. The customer service (aside from the employee who made our drinks at the end) was worse than the food and drinks. From having to repeat my order three times at the beginning because the other employees were yelling right at the register to having our order forgotten about, I would not recommend going here, especially if you’re looking for a quick and...
