SERPONE'S PIZZERIA - Pizza / Salads / Subs - Ocean Pines — Restaurant in Maryland

Serpone's is the best pizza in the Ocean City and Berlin area. Ignoring far lesser chains (e.g., Domino's, Fox's, Ledo's), I have had Paul and Vinny's, Paradise, Pizza Boy, Tugo's, Lombardi's, Burn, Ripino's, Pino's and many, many more. These are reputable, popular local brands that many would argue are similar. Comparatively and systematically speaking (in a number of cases, I have verified Serpone's pizza styles/type through side by side tasting with competitors), Serpone's is clearly superior. You can discern from an ingredients and process standpoint... Serpone's flavor aligns to the hallmarks of excellent Italian pies. The owner puts his heart and soul into his products... You can tell he puts in the work the "old school" way, and I'd argue what he's producing for pizza is highly underappreciated by some of our local communities. Also, I can recognize he truly cares his customers. He's always acknowledging, friendly, and appreciative of his customers. I give Serpone's a five star review and it's head and shoulders above 20+ other places as my "go to" Italian pizza joint. Ordered food online 15 minutes before I arrived and it was ready for pickup when I got there. Staff was very friendly, restaurant is clean. The chicken cutlet sub was easily a 9 out of 10 rating. Good amount of nice quality, perfectly seasoned and crisp chicken, fresh toppings and tangy oil/vinegar mix (I hate mayo). The fries were a 0 out of 10, they were the god awful crispy coated type. Typically this is a sign of a cheap restaurant owner, but think it's just an honest mistake here. Crispy coated fries soak up a stale grease flavor, and I want my fries to be potatoes, salt and oil, not dextrose! Not only that but these were undercooked, but fully cooked they'd still be awful. Please get crinkle cut, straight cut or boardwalk fries, but you'll have to post a sign that you've changed because I'm not waiting $4.xx on fries again. Great NY style pizza, which is hard to come by on the Eastern Shore. Everything I have tried was great. Always fast service. The restaurant is always very clean. Everyone is always very friendly.

I order here often, but I ordered on 7/20 as a delivery, which is done through Toast/Door Dash, and it was after 9pm, an hour after I ordered, a little worried because they closed at 9 and I was charged. I called and asked about the order and at no fault of their own, no one had picked up the pizza yet. The owner stayed for 30 minutes after they closed and waited for someone to come get my food, even though he could have closed the doors, and I wouldn’t have been mad at him at all for doing so. It’s Saturday, we have lives and families outside of work. Pizza still came warm and fresh. That’s way above and beyond for a $16 order and the doordash driver gets to keep the whole tip.
