Southside Deli — Restaurant in Maryland

I am a frequent customer of SS Deli and the quality of the food is worth the premium price.. However, I believe they can improve on customer service. I recently ordered an Italian Hoagie with onions and dressing on the side so I could eat the sandwich the next day and not have a smelly soggy mess. I received a hoagie soaked with dressing and with onions. I called and told them what had happened and that while I was not happy, I was not looking for any compensation. What I was told was “I’m sorry, we sell a lot of Italian Hoagies and must have given you the wrong one and someone else likely got yours.” No apology, just that comment. Good local spot offering typical deli sandwiches, subs, salads as well as frozen items (ravioli, stuffed shells, etc.), candy and chips. They also have a fairly large selection of wine and beer.

I prefer Southside because of the quality of their cold cuts. Always fresh and never slimy. I relocated from NJ and this is the closest I could find to Jersey subs in the area.

If I could change one thing it would be the way they assemble the subs. The bread is split on one side and the meat is folded (like Wawa) - this causes everything to squish out the sides when you take a bite. Slicing the bread on both sides and layering the meat could avoid this problem.

Got a large Italian and a roast beef. We had been here previously and enjoyed their sandwiches. However this trip we were very disappointed. Both rolls on our sandwiches were stale-dry. Or perhaps the rolls were over cooked from the bakery. Whatever it was a sub par sandwich for not a cheap price. With two small bags of chips our total was over $42.
