I've been coming here for more years than I care to remember, usually after or between appointments at Greenspring. The good: The owner and chief order-taker, Chris is amazing. He is friendly, kind and nice to everyone who comes to the register, and this has never changed. 5 stars for Chris.
The coffee, as you can see from the recent reviews, is really bad, and I do mean REALLY. One star. I ordered one with an extra shot recently, with tax etc it was close to 7 dollars. What I got was a cup of lukewarm milk with that stale coffee, uncleaned espresso machine twang of taste. I asked for the extra shot because on my last few visits it's been lukewarm milk and hardly any coffee. The extra shot made it worse not better.
I'd suggest they thoroughly clean the machine, filters, water chamber and all, and revisit the beans they are using. And then, train the staff to create a proper cup of coffee. Update the menu. For example, "Flat white" should not be greeted with such a mystified look - it's mainstream these days.
The food is a bit hit or miss considering how very expensive it is I'd expect more consistent quality. I've experienced toasted sandwiches where the bread feels like it's been toasted for a nano-second if that, salads where the ends of the tomatoes are used throughout, not just once, breakfasts where the potatoes where stone cold, and grilled cheese where the cheese was a greasy lump of cheapo plastic-y rubber, hot chocolate full of sludge and way too sweet (even for a kid), and more. I've forgiven all this as one-offs, but then I tried the restaurant in the square, and got a super cup of coffee, an impeccable salad brought out super quickly, on three separate occasions and for about 20% more than at StoneMill. Sorry, but unless you fix the coffee, that's where I'm headed now...
Pastries, cakes, bread, always on point. 5 stars for them. Like to end high because do not want to damage this business or the lovely owner -- just wish they'd up the game on the coffee. I'm forgiving on the odd miss with food but it's been maybe a decade since the coffee was good (feels like the long since the machine was properly cleaned...
Read moreI went to Stone Mill Bakery this evening because I saw it advertised on the news as somewhere good to try and to support a local business. Unfortunately, I had a terrible experience. Upon walking into the store no one greeted my sister or I or asked us to give them a second while they were working on something else and tell us they would attend us in a few. There was no one but another women in the store so a greeting could have been made easily.
I waited quite a while until it was my time to order my food because I let some folks in front of me while I still decided what I wanted to order. Finally when I arrived to the register in the middle of my order the cashier walks away doesn't say excuse me for one second and attends another customer. Next when part of my order was ready the cashier places a bag at the register. I wasn't sure who's food it was so I didn't go to grab it. Another gentleman goes up to the register thinking it was his order and touches my bag (which I didn't know was my bag at the time).
Upon still standing on the side waiting for my food the same terrible cashier comes out and slams the bag that was at the register on the table next to me and walks away. I'm standing there thinking she didn't slam my food right next to me and still not mention it's mine.
I will never return to this establishment again due to the poor customer service & disrespectful behavior I encountered. The nicest thing anyone said was the person who I believe was the manager or owner who told my sister and I goodbye. Slamming folks food...
Read morebeautiful spot peaceful the person taking the order was amazing, and i believe he’s the owner. we ordered a bagel with cream cheese and a croissant cut, warmed and buttered. and a black coffee. we walked back to the patio to sit down, then the server brings the food, real nice. coffee server followed us until we noticed her to give us the coffee.
we get a warmed bagel with soggy cream cheese… so the cook must have put the cream cheese on first then heated it. soo… please heat the bagel first, then put on the cream cheese. I won’t order this again. croissant was cut, with at least 1/2 cup of butter. i mean… literally… if not 1/2 cup then at least 1/3 cup of butter… and it was cold. i went back to ask them to heat it up. the server was nice. but he heated up the croissant with 1/2c of butter, so when i opened it, i had a wet oily flat croissant. i guess i should have complained about too much butter… but i don’t like pissing off servers either….. so i just won’t order this again as well. coffee was weak and tastes like 7/11 coffee… won’t order this again too.
soo… my review was 5 star originally, then i took one down for the food and coffee. I was still amazed by the person ordering, restaurant setting...
