Visited today with a group and I will NOT go again. The food lacked flavor and the staff are rude and uninviting.
We had a reservation for 10 and upon arrival they appeared annoyed and irritated with the size of the party. They crammed us into a small area with barely enough space on the table for all of us to dine comfortably with elbow room.
I received a Bloody Mary that was water down and also flavorless. My server was agitated that I asked for it to be corrected. Later, when he was refilling water glasses he inadvertently poured water into my cocktail. I waiting for him to acknowledge or apologize and he did neither. A bit later we brought it to his attention and his response was “yes, a little water spilled in your drink”. He said nothing else. He didn’t offer to refresh the drink, remake the drink or remove it from the bill. NOTHING. When I later asked for it to be moved from the check, he snatched the drink off the table and stormed away.
Later when our server came by the table I was quite surprised the when he saw that a couple of us had barely eaten 10% of our meal, he never asked if we needed anything or if the food was ok. He simply cleared the table with near full plates.
Here comes the kicker. When we were done eating our server brought our check. We waited for him to come back to process the card to no avail. After more than 15 minutes passed some of our group that needed to leave began to disperse. By the 20 mark I was alone and awaiting assistance. Since no one came, I proceeded to ask a server that was not occupied if she could process my card for the tables payment. She said she would but I would have to wait. I informed her of my 20 minutes and counting wait and that I would have to leave soon. Her response was “if you leave I’m going to call the police” .
Instead of her going to process my card, she proceeded to go and get a telephone and began calling the police. I have never experienced such a display of clear bias and bigotry that this restaurant displayed.
Needless to say, I will...
Read moreI live near the Daily Dish and eat there at least once a week most weeks I am in town--sometimes alone, sometimes with family members, sometimes with friends who haven't been there. I also eat out a lot in the D.C. area (and other places I visit) and am always asking people to tell me a restaurant in D.C. they "love." There are plenty that are okay--but I can't say many I love. I love the Daily Dish in the way one loves a comfortable, good, and treasured friend. The food is always good and interesting, people are nice, atmosphere is neighborhood and welcoming. The menu changes frequently so one can go often, as I do, and find something different to order--while there's also a stable menu that stays the same. Usually I order from the changing menu--soups are always great--but there's always the excellent burger, crab cakes, salads, pizza, and standards from the regular menu to go back to if the specials don't appeal to me. Sure, occasionally I have a dish I like less well than others, but there's no place in the D.C. area that I'm more consistently satisfied and find new and interesting things to order--also a nice wine list including lots of by the...
Read moreGot the steak and eggs w a side of potatoes and asparagus. First: the fat had not been trimmed off the steak- such an easy step and shows care in food prep. Second, it wasn't a side of asparagus, it was 2 pieces of asparagus laid on top of the steak- I'd call that a garnish. Lastly- almost every restaurant that does a Bloody Mary bar or some kind of "drink buffet" has this problem (imo it's a problem) but their "bar" is right next to the front door so everyone who walks into their restaurant is walking next to, shaking their coats and umbrellas and hair around before they realize there is food there and nothing is covered!! Put some saran wrap on those olives! Get a cover for those cocktail onions!! Despite my criticisms, this should be a solid place to get some food. They have some outdoor seating and the wall opens up so you can sit inside the restaurant and still feel like you have benefits of...
