It actually pains me to leave this review. I LOVED this place. Past tense. My family and friends have enjoyed many fantastic nights, Pinky 2s, mudslides, and lobster rolls at the Raw Bar, but after the appalling customer service we received this weekend, none of us care to return. I mean, weâve practically had unofficial wedding reception afterparties at the RB - we truly LOVE going. Not to mention spend an embarrassing amount of money there, lol.
I live out of state now, but I wait all year to visit Poppy and the Raw Bar during the summer. However, as of the 2024 season, their customer service is despicable. The âhostessâ on duty this weekend was beyond clueless and has clearly never worked in the service/hospitality industry before. She treated us like scum when we arrived to meet our party - our family members - who had arrived a before us. Theyâd made staff aware that weâd be joining them, but when we arrived, we were met with one of the worst displays of customer service Iâve ever encountered - anywhere, EVER. I donât get to see my family much throughout the year due to distance, so we really look forward to Cape nights with lobster rolls and mudslides at the RB together. Never again. At least not at the Poppy Raw Bar.
No respectable establishment/business would allow the âserviceâ she dished out this weekend without nepotism being involved. She told us (with a horrible expression of contempt on her face) that she âcouldnât seat usâ at any of the 6 empty picnic tables outside, and then proceeded to seat two parties at two of those picnic tables, directly in front of us, while we stood awkwardly waiting for someone at the RB to find a solution to accommodate our party, like ACTUAL service industry workers (usually) can and DO so well. Itâs called customer service. That âsolutionâ came ~30 min after standing around (we were told we werenât even allowed to purchase drinks while we waited) and then the hostess smugly told us to sit at one of the picnic tables that had been empty for the entirety of our experience - yep, you bet, the SAME ones she told us she couldnât seat anyone at, then sat 2 parties at the very same tables right before our eyes. She might as well have given us the middle finger. We were then ignored for an additional 15-20 min at the picnic table. Nobody came to tell us it would be a few minutes, nor to hand us a menu, nor to take so much as a water order. Nobody came to the table at all, so we got up and left.
Turns out we werenât being Punkâd, although it was such horrendous service that it truly seemed that way. I guess the Raw Bar has just severely dropped their hiring standards. Hate to say this, because this place used to be great, but take your business elsewhere.
Oh, and the lobster rolls are alright, but nothingâs worth $50 served up with a cold side of shitty attitude from a seriously inexperienced hostess surfing a sad,...
Read moreWe arrived at the Raw Bar at 4:45 on Monday July 8, 2019. We immediately ordered 2 dozen oysters (it was a dollar oyster night) and 3 lobster rolls. Our first 18 oysters were served after a wait of about 50 minutes. I asked twice about our remaining food order. Jackie, out waitress indicated that it would be ready soon. While we were waiting for our food another group that was seated 15 or 20 minutes after us received their order of lobster rolls. When I asked again about our order, Jackie said there was one cook and the cook was taking orders at random (about this time I was hoping that Gordon Ramsey would show up and ask them to explain what their process was, in the âHellâs Kitchenâ way). After having waited a few more minutes one of my daughters asked for our bill up to that. Two dozen lobsters and almost two hoursâ worth of drinks came to $107; and that was without the lobster rolls. We decided to cut our loss. Although I did leave a little bit of a tip, Jackie did not handle the situation very well. She should have brought the manager to our table at a minimum. Raw Bar may have great Lobster Rolls but you will never know if you are not served Lobster Rolls when ordered. We then went to the Pizza Joint next to Raw Bar; they assured us we would not have to wait 2 hours for our Pizza, it was good, hot and served in a very reasonable time. Then we went to the ice cream shop and received our ice cream treats very quickly. Any questions, please talk to my...
Read moreEveryone comes for the gigantic lobster roll and for good reason! $28 for a roll overflowing with lobster meat. I had to use the fork to eat carefully around for fear of dropping precious lobster by picking it up. At this massive size, I was so full of lobster that I didn't end up eating much of the actual roll in the end.
I tried this place out with a few friends and one of them ordered the chicken wings (unappetizing that she decided to order a lobster roll afterwards), raw bar blend, and the twin lobsters! If it wasn't for the lobsters I think this would only be a 3-star place for me, but I'm bumping it up to 3.5 and rounding up. (The ambiance and service are lacking.)
Also the GPS was a bit deceptive in trying to find this place since I didn't see an actual sign. It's actually located in a shopping village type area. We ended up parking in the lot and finding the place eventually on foot. We initially stepped into the crowded, smokey, dark bar but we went around through the gate to seat ourselves in the open picnic bench type...
