El Vagoncito Chilango — Restaurant in McAllen

So I gave the Vagoncito Chilango in McAllen 2 stars...this place deserves just 1. I usually take pics of my meal...but nothing to highlight here, sorry!

I went for lunch and had a regular hamburger with french fries and a soda (can) for near $11. I don't mind paying for an $11 burger...but give me some quality meat folks. I will be honest...it felt like the low-grade quality patty available at stores that has heart mixed into it. It had a really soft texture to it...and no flavor to it. The buns were barely toasted...

They give you the condiments so you can dress the burger yourself...but the bottles have no tops to them. On my ketchup bottle, on the tip, there was a dried up seed from who knows what. I can say I added plenty of ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise to my burger...but none of those flavors came through.

On the bright side...they gave me a side of beans even though I ordered a burger. The beans were tasty...and the fries were crisp and piping hot. But every time I poured ketchup on them, the dried up seed on the bottle kept staring at me.

As far as service...I was the only one there during that time. The waitress took my order... brought out my food...and see you later. She was replaced with another one, and the new one didn't even bother to check on me.

I don't mind paying $11 for a nice juicy burger...but it's...

The service is horrible. The ladies that work there are very rude. Or whoever answers the phone. I ordered something and the lady seemed annoyed. She didn’t ask me for a name and then hanged up when I was trying to ask her something. Then I call back because they didn’t ask me for a name so I wanted to confirm. She answers and I ask her around how long it will take (I asked her that because it’s common to ask at taco stands and to prepare to be on my way not because I was being rude). And she says around 15 mins which is fine no issue but then I wanted to confirm my order and she asks me under what name. I say oh they didn’t ask me for my name but this is my order. she says under “name” (and I that was my name but I hadn’t given them my name) and the lady says in a very condescending tone “I thought you said we didn’t ask for a name???” And i said you all didn’t but that sounds like my order and that is my name. N she cuts me off again and says 15 mins. And says well there is another order with no name but maybe they already know you 🤦🏻‍♀️I try explain to her I wasn’t being rude I just wanted to confirm my order and at this point I just thought that it wasn’t going to be safe eating there so I told her to cancel my order. I really liked the food. I will no longer be ordering from any of those food trucks. I will be making a...

The place is street..as street can get...but sometimes these places are the bomb for hidden gems in food experience!! Well..this place was not quite the place for a 5 star taste..i struggled to give a 4...but service was fast...place was clean(i avoid rush hour like the herpes) but food was meh.. The pros is that it serves 6 tacos...fully loaded with the essentials to top them off...i have seen many places scaling down quantities to 5 tacos...or creatively giving you 4 tacos and other things to get ur stomach full of everything but tacos😆😆... Good enough to recommend...and probably come again in a pinch or while around here in Milpa land....but i won't seek out and drive the 10 miles for tacos.... Prices was proper..about 16 smacs gets u an order. Free sida beans 🫘... So come 1 come all...its a great place to fill ur empty stomach on good ole fashioned street...
