Borrego Pinto Taqueria — Restaurant in Texas

This restaurant was listed as one of 50 best Tacos in Texas in Texas Monthly. My boy and I made a long trek there because of the article.

The restaurant, while clean and spacious, definitely meets the definition of a hole in the wall. The strip mall where the restaurant is located is in disrepair and heavily in need of updating. The parking area is spacious but is in disrepair and the entrance to the restaurant is nondescript and could be also described as disappointing.

Our server was tired but efficient. They recommended their consomme and 4 tacos de rez which we each ordered, and honestly, the meal did not stand out and was no better than I could have gotten at any other taco restaurant nearby.

The consomme was pungent and easily identifiable as goat meat which I did not care for. The tacos were plain barbacoa (shredded beef) but not out of the ordinary taste. I don't know what the author of the article in the Texas Monthly was raving about.

The meal which included a soft drink and bottled water set us back about $40 dollars, which in my opinion was $20 dollars too much. Regardless, the meal was OK, but not a standout.

It's stripped down to basics as far as atmosphere, but just makes it more Authentic! Tacos were pretty simple and straightforward but really good flavours.

I had the beef and the meat was cooked to perfection. I even got a couple roasted jalapenos. The real star was their green sauce. Out of over 400 other Mexican restaurants I have eaten at only 2 other restaurants would have a give this sauce a run for the money! Anyway chances are I will be back here again...

Very BAD attitude from a Tall Lady w Blonde hair.
